With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. He wanted off the planet, his wanderlust getting the better of it. It was the longest stretch of time he had spent in once place minus his years at the Academy - always moving, always traveling, wanting ( Read more... )

It was a long day, and Bones was tired, grumpy, and hungry. Dropping off his bag at the door, he headed to the door and found Jim, watching the sun set.

It was a minute before he said anything. "Hey," he finally muttered, rubbing at his eyes. Jim was sitting on the deck, surrounded by padds, paper with notes scribbled all over them, and a few empty glasses. A little smile flit across his face. "You been out here for a while?"

The last thing Bones wanted to do with deal with this mess from earth.

"Almost all day. Ended up holding open office hours.... feels like I saw most of the crew." Which was a lot, considering the amount of crew. Jim looked over towards Bones, who just looked... exhausted. He stood up, stretching himself out, and stood behind Bones. "Long day?"

His hands dropped to Bones' shoulders and started rubbing into the tight muscle.

"Long month," he muttered, closing his eyes at Jim's touch. He let those magic fingers do their work for a minute before turning around and kissing him. "How you doing?" he asked when they pulled away from each other.

Long month indeed. "Alright. Found out Jim and his Spock plan to stay with Tina on the starbase she's going to. So's a bunch of his crew and a handful of others are staying on planet." He cupped the back of Bones' neck, laying their foreheads together. Reconnection. Touch.

Bones made a little thinking noise, then looked up at Jim. "Really?" He frowned, sad at the thought of all of them leaving. But it made sense, when you thought about it. "Probably for the best," he finally said, running a hand over Jim's hair. "They need something to do, to occupy their time and energy." He lifted Jim's chin, so he could look into those eyes of his. "You okay with this?"

Jim had once been very close with his counterpart... until things changed.

"Jim's like me... if it was reversed and I was on his ship? I would have gone nuts by now." He met Bones' eyes and gave a little smile. "Yea. At first... I think it was like a crutch, having him around. Someone who thought at least sort of like me with more experience. Now.... I wanna walk on my own."

"You're gonna be great, Jim. Already are." He kissed Jim's forehead and headed inside to sit down at the sofa. Pulling off his boots, he leaned back and let the day's weariness roll off of him. "Anything else interesting happen?"

"Going to be giving some hand-to-hand lessons, some lessons in Vulcan... got to meet some of our new security people. Met someone who I think is either being lied to or is crazy, saying they're 1/8 Vulcan." Jim laughed a bit at that.

"That's quite a feat," Bones replied, eyes following Jim. He'd thought it had taken quite a bit of wrangling in a petri dish to get Spock conceived. "But I tell you what - after all the shit that's happened on board the ship? There isn't anything anymore that I'm gonna call impossible."

He laughed at the Jim's mention of teaching. Bones wasn't sure how much Jim realized he did that, offering to help people, to teach them something new.

"You've got a point. Hence my 'I think she was lied to' theory." He collected his things, smiling. "What are you laughing at?" The PADDs stacked neatly together, and he started shuffling through bits of paper to see what was actually important.

"You." He stretched out the length of the sofa, watching Jim; was nice watching him cleaning up around the place. "Just picturing you in front of a classroom."

Was nice looking up and seeing Bones all stretched out like that. "If you're talking a real classroom, I'd hate that. Hand-to-hand's different. ...Oh!" He grinned brightly. "We did get someone ... special joining us on board."

Bones' eyes had been closing when he heard the excitement in Jim's voice. "Oh?" he asked, sitting back up a bit, curious.

"I don't know if you've seen her around..." He finally shoved the paper into his pockets and grabbed the PADDs. "Wears very strange hats, dark skinned, gorgeous voice, names Guinan?" He glanced over, seeing if there was recognition in Bones' eyes. He sort of hoped there was, as his choice to give away a chunk of his pay would be easier to explain.

"Yeah," Bones grinned. "She was at the theatre that night, you introduced us." Jim had a habit of finding interesting people.

Hell, that was right! How did he forget? Jim smiled, almost like a kid who had a surprise hidden and was sheepish about giving it. He dumped the PADDs on an inside table and walked over, eyes bright.

"Well... she came to me today and asked if I could give her a place on board. She's not Starfleet but then again my head of security isn't either but..." He gave a small grin. "She'll be turning one of the rec rooms into a bar. A proper bar and rec room."
