After the conversation with George, mood lower than he had hoped and a twitching pain flaring up in his left hand, Jim went back to the room he was sharing with Bones. He closed the deck doors to keep in the cool air from the environmental controls and walked over to the bed.

He sat down on the edge of it, smiling just a little as he watched Bones sleep. Finally he reached out, sliding his fingers through Bones' hair. Maybe he wouldn't wake Bones, just let him get some sleep.

Jim let out a breath, one hand coming up and cupping Bones' face. He thought up a dozen responses, wanting to just come home and have one of them not in a piss-poor mood because of the trial, but Bones was as stubborn as him. "Joining me?" he finally said.

For a genius, Jim could be incredibly thick in the head. A lot of retorts went through Bones' head, but in the end he just nodded. "Yeah." Maybe that would be enough.

He tugged at Jim's robe until it fell off him and onto the floor, and they both stood there, naked. He reached for Jim's hand, twinging their fingers, letting that small gesture speak for him. You're not doing this alone, period. Stepping back, he pulled Jim with him toward the bathroom.
