Spock wasn't actually at the beach. He knew where the beach party was, knew that there was a beach party going on, but would still rather keep his distance from people that were, by now, probably drunk. He had already been embarrassed once on this shore leave, and he didn't know if he could look at Kirk again without strangling him into the sand for his unwitting display. It would be illogical to do so, if Jim didn't know his wanton acts had been broadcast, but he predicted that some simple pleasure would come out of the act anyway ( ... )

A lot of answers came to mind, 99% of them inappropriate. Jim hesitated before choosing one with a small grin, "How 'bout taking a walk? It's out last night on Risa, and who knows how long it'll be before I get to be at the ocean again."

For him, he had not drank all that much, but he was definitely feeling the edges of its affects. The loose, light headed, generally good feeling.

He took a drink through the straw, a long one, because there was an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach not born out of the alcohol or the chocolate, and the cold of the ice cream worked like a soothing balm. When he was done, the drink was all but done, whipped cream and chocolate syrup residue clinging to the sides of the glass with just a small bit left at the bottom. Spock left it that way to avoid the indignity of sucking air through the straw and that childish noise it made. The glass chinked as he set it aside on the bench, and he looked over to Jim.

"Let us walk."

Ridiculously pleased that Spock agreed, Kirk stood up, slammed back the rest of his drink, and put it down. "Come on, I saw the beach beyond the bar's basically empty." He gave Spock a look, one that some people might have called 'come hither', then grinned before walking through the crowd back to the stairs, and out into the night air properly.

Rather grateful that the floor hadn't started to move like it did the last time he had consumed an entire milkshake in less than an hour, Spock followed him out. He, not for the first time this evening, wished he had brought his one of his coats with him, though the lingering cool of the evening on the beach was tolerable, for now.

The walk to the beach was enough to make him question his decision, regardless of whether it was over and done with. The sand shifting under his shoes seemed to bring to life the shaky ground he always felt he was treading on with Jim, a reluctant inner acknowledgment not helped by the fact Jim was right there, looking friendly and oblivious and too utterly human.

At least, he also noticed, the walk was putting the tourists and the crew behind them. Spock could hear the surf hitting the shore.

The roll of the ocean made his nerves calm. Kirk stopped only long enough to remove his sneakers and socks, tucking them off to the side so he could pick them up later. He wriggled his toes in the sand, then grinned to Spock before walking along again. "Like the feel of it." The wet sand was still warm under his feet.

He walked along beside Spock, shoving his hands into his pockets as they walked along the shore. "...last night before we return to the ship. To our duties, to the stars." Not said in a sad way, but definitely excited.

Spock had no preference for the feel of the sand or not, so he kept his shoes on and stayed out of the water. His hands folded neatly behind his back as he walked with Jim. "Was this leave adequate for you?"

A tiny smirk, "More then adequate. I think we all needed this. Just.. a chance to get to know the new people on the ship and for them to get adjusted... people to have fun."

To get my mind fucked out of me. Kirk smirked to himself.

Fun. He knew exactly what kind of 'fun' Jim had indulged in and he had almost, almost pushed it from his mind before he brought up again. And looking immensely pleased, too. "...of course," He said slowly, barely a breath of a pause between the two syllables.

A glance over at Spock's tone, blinking a little, "...Something wrong, Spock?" He asked a bit unsurely, not understanding the slight change that meant a big one in terms of Vulcans.

He pondered, staring into the sand, whether or not he should allude to his knowledge of Jim's escapades, whether it would throw him off completely or entice him (and then proceeded to question which result he would prefer, and subsequently berated himself mentally). With a glance back at him, "I have ingested more chocolate than I am accustomed to," It wasn't an outright lie. "Pardon any falter of mine as a consequence of that."

"How much did you have tonight?" So it was true! Spock... Vulcans got inebriated by chocolate! His eyes went wide for a moment as he realized just what that meant. The dream... it was true. It had happened.

His thoughts wandered to the half-bar still left in his pocket. "Approximately twenty grams, before you had given me that drink." The last word had its own skepticism; it was still a dessert crammed into a glass and topped with whipped cream.

Kirk had no idea how to calculate that in terms of drunkenness. "Is that a lot for a Vulcan?" He questioned, glancing to Spock unsurely.

Jim's ignorance would probably be better for Spock in this position, but that would involve some conversation directing he really didn't want to orchestrate at the moment. "Any chocolate may be considered too much, depending on whose opinion you request. A standard bar of sixty-percent cacao, forty grams," He brought his hands forward to show the general size between two index fingers. "Is akin to two chocolate milkshakes in a standard San Francisco diner, which is, in turn, similar to three pints of an average-strength North American beer on the human digestive system." This, too, was accompanied by its own size motions.

"So, if you were to compare, about one and a half pints," A glance over to him again. "Though with your resistance, in terms of effects."

Only Spock would be so damned complicated about it. Kirk followed the logic for a moment, then snorted a little, "A pint and a half is barely anything." Damn, you'd have to pour chocolate straight down Spock's veins for him to get actually drunk Kirk thought. "So not bad."

He looked down and stopped in his walk, kneeling down. He grinned a little and dusted something buried a bit in the hand, digging it out with his fingertips. Finally he pulled out a large shell, surprisingly in tact except for a bit of a nick at the edge, then straightened up. He turned it over in his hands, checking the inside of it to make sure it wasn't home to anything, then held it up to his ear. The roar of the ocean became louder.
