Is there any theory that would help us determine the smallest possible effort one could engage in to be a true revolutionary, or the smallest amount of transmitted information that is necessary to be a true revolutionary? treptoplax's "This Shirt is a Munition" was pretty good, but I did it in 128 bits. Can one subvert the dominant paradigm in fewer? Can one undermine the very foundations of the establishment with even less personal effort than a livejournal post?
I like it, but I don't think it should count. It needs a certain amount of context-independence to count as conveying information. So, if I had just posted "2+2=4", would that have necessarily been a statement of freedom, or could it be reasonably construed as just arithmetic? I think we need to count your reminder of the Orwell quote as part of the message.
Admittedly, you can't have total context-independence. If I had blurted out the hex string in a remote village in Mozambique, it wouldn't have been a meaningful statement without some additional explanation, which would then count as part of the message. And to take it to a logical extreme, how much information would I need to convey to an extraterrestrial intelligence the very concept of "revolution?"
So I need to make an arbitrary declaration of a "default" amount of context. I think that will have to be the a priori mental state of my flist. I know, that's vague and ill-defined.
