There's at least one like that living over on the creekbank by our place. Every so often I see him scooting in and out of his hole on my way to the post office.
Actually, it's thanks to Claire that I found it in the first place. I don't think any of them actually saw it, but Claire was clearly interested in something she *heard* out on the front porch.
We have a little groundhog colony living in the wooded areas around our neighborhood. In spring to early summer, I can see one to three of them out in the grass most mornings. They're pretty cute, but then again I haven't had any eat my plants.
Groundhogs will turn even the most dedicated Jainists into exterminators, so long as they're gardeners. I hate those things. Groundhogs, not gardeners.
I'm now guessing he's probably the one that keeps nibbling on the other climbing flower I'm trying to grow on a trellis out back, too. I *think* it's still the deer that eat the azaleas, though. And nibble the cherry trees. Of course, the bigger threat to the cheery trees is the Japanese beetles. It never ends.

It'd probably bite my face off, but I'd probably chase it. With intentions of hugging. :P (j/k)
