Since I've been out of town and/or busy (and/or procrastinating) I haven't actually sent off anything on my HOA lawn issue. The only substantive opinions I got on my last post were observations that if I'm trying to be relatively non-confrontational as long as I can, perhaps immediately going over the head of the person who sent me the initial

Dear Anal and Overly Intrusive Lady: SHADDUP!

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with having grass lawns. Weeds are /fine/; they're way tougher than grass and some of 'em have flowers to boot!

When I was little one of our neighbors got so fed up they just turned their whole front yard into a natural area (Read: covered it in pinestraw and bushes). They've still got it that way, too.

Edit: Er, this is not a helpful comment, I guess. Uh... I vote for ducking the question until she forces the issue!

I took pictures on my cell phone of one of the houses in a cul de sac that did essentially that with their yard. Theirs is a lot smaller than ours, but they put juniper in the ditch and let it expand, and pine straw and bushes behind it. So if they tell us we can't do that, I'll show them that someone *does* have a yard like that, and they can stuff it.

My main goal is to decrease mowing to absolute minimum, so.
