Who: Jyabura and Kaku in The Room Thread // Lucci and Fujiko in the Hallway Thread What: Kaku gets to once again bring the bad news. Where: A room and hallway, private, on the SDC Sub When: Tonight
Jyabura was so unaccustomed to emotions like nervousness and apprehension that it took him awhile to put a name to what he was feeling. He tried to play it off, but at this point, there was no convincing himself that it wasn't a big deal. Finding out what happened to your family and all the people you grew up with after three decades of repressed memories and hiding from the inevitable was...daunting.
He was starting to regret ever taking Kaku up on his offer to help. He should have done this himself, even if he had to go and hunt down hard copies of the evidence... But then, if a guy couldn't trust his teammates to help him out, who could he ever trust?
This end of the sub was quiet, and when Jyabura walked into the room, Kaku was already there. "Hey," he said awkwardly, standing with his hands in his pockets. The whole situation seemed weirdly professional, like in the old days. Jyabura didn't know how to feel about that.
"Hello," Kaku replied with a calm smile, and gestured vaguely to one of the chairs. He realized that the folder he'd brought was not terribly think; really, there'd not been a lot of information to uncover.
The tension was uncomfortably thick; unfortunately, Kaku realized that there was no real way to dissolve it save for starting the conversation. He walked past Jyabura quietly and closed the door behind them, locking it with a key he'd managed to 'obtain' with ease.
"Sorry for the secrecy," Kaku remarked. "I'm just trying to be considerate; it's your business to tell whomever you want to, not mine to reveal to anyone else."
Fujiko paced the hallways apprehensively. She actually had enough respect for both Kaku and Jyabura not to eavesdrop but not knowing was making her worry and that made her fidgety at best. She kept flipping the PPKs out of their holsters and spinning them around on a single finger before realizing what she was doing and shoving them back away, determined not to show any sign of nerves whatsoever. What she needed was a distraction. With the kids gone she couldn't pounce them with a squirtgun fight -- a thought that made her play with the squirtgun nervously instead -- and Toboe was with Tsume, and whoever she did find she was going to drive into insanity by taking out her anxiety on them so that left out most of the people she spent a lot of time with.
The final solution was a clear one and she sought out Lucci with only a half-realization of the fact. "Yo," she greeted him shortly when she found him.
Lucci's immediate reaction was to be impressed that Fujiko had found him. He hadn't visited the ship in some time, but he remembered the layout; the rec room was spacious and soundproofed to prevent the sounds of exercise equipment and sparring sessions from bothering passersby, making it an ideal place to think. It wasn't too far-fetched an idea that Fujiko had come here for the same reason...but he didn't think so.
He acknowledged her presence with a nod, getting up from where he had been leaning against the wall to walk further into the room, not necessarily approaching her so much as shortening the distance between them in a roundabout path. Hands in his pockets, he looked thoughtfully into the distance.
"Hn," she grunted shortly at that, also keeping her hands in pockets as she didn't want to reveal her own nervousness, however obvious it might be to the highly trained spy. A quick scan around the room revealed it was empty except for the two of them, which was both a little reassuring and a lot more the opposite. Grabbing a seat in one of the couches she tried to look like she was merely comfortable, not ready to jump out of her skin. Where had she put the trap in the rec room anyway? The cieling? Kaku said Lucci would instantly spot and disarm them but there was no easy way to ask if he had without giving him an opportunity to gloat no matter which the answer was. Maybe she could grab a book and feign interest in that.
"Get your cufflinks back yet?" she asked sounding mostly casual about it.
"I've decided to let you keep them." Lucci's eyes traced every movement Fujiko made, every step she took, every shift and twitch of discomfort at his presence. "Consider it a token of apology. A paltry comfort, I'm sure, but it pains me to be unable to return your affections."
He said it in the sincerest possible tone, not a trace of sarcasm in his tone or expression. If anything was going to unnerve her, that was probably a good start.
"I hope you don't find me rude for hiding out here, rather than coming to look for you. I didn't want to deny you the conquest."

He was grateful for the help, hard and weird as it was to try to express that, so he didn't. He picked a seat and took it, wondering how to proceed.
Eventually, he sighed. "Okay. Cut the formal bullshit and tell me what you got, all right? I don't got all day." He avoided Kaku's eyes as he said it.

"I suspect they'll be awhile," he said idly.
