It's Sir Lawrence of the Marsh. I was trying to keep it at least vaguely anonymous in a public forum, but as there's nothing negative going on here and no hurt feelings if I decline, I guess it's a little unnecessary. Over-abundance of caution. I blame my job. ;-)
Do you have an established succession plan in place for your office? Never mind statistical likelihoods -- it's important to take seriously the possibility of winning and what the consequences of that would be.
What Heather said. Plus, you'll need a reliable deputy to back you up in running heraldry on the field at Crown. It is very difficult to keep track of a fighter and watch his/her fights and have any other responsibilities at the same time. I suggest from experience that you not personally cry any fields until/unless he is out of the lists. It's a good training opportunity for your deputy! :-)
I wasn't intending to cry any fields myself regardless, and if I do accept Sir Lawrence's request, it would be with the understanding that I will be busy with my duties as Greencloak. I've also only been in the office myself since October Crown, so I don't have a deputy. I need to talk to Moira, I think.
Thanks for your thoughts. It's good to get confirmation that I'm not over-thinking this. :)
Thank you for the poke, awesome Laurel. :) I had thought of that, but it helps to have it pointed out. Like I said to acanthusleaf, it's good to get confirmation that I'm not over-thinking this. I'll see if Moira has any suggestions, since I've only been Greencloak since October.
Have a chat with him about what his expectations are. If he's a self-watering fighter who doesn't need much attention there's no reason you can't be Greencloak *and* a consort. But if he needs someone to make sure he's fed, watered, called to each fight, and shaded when he's not fighting; that may be too much overlap in duties. I would also recommend at least a brief talk on "what will we do if we win?" (because it could happen).
Yes, that's basically what I'm planning to discuss with him - if he needs maintenance, I can't do it.
I had a "what if we win?" conversation with Drogo when we were preparing to compete for the Allyshian coronet, and I was really glad we did, given that we did win. :)
