Three Ways KinKi Kids Celebrate Their 20th Anniversary
1: Shine
Tsuyoshi sighed. "It doesn't fit anymore."
Kouichi fingered the costume like it was radioactive. "It didn't fit anymore fifteen years ago. It's a miracle they can still dig this out for you. And why are we even considering wearing this?"
"Maa, we need something spectacular to top the tenth year kiss, don't we? And this would be so nostalgic."
"Our fans would get heart attacks if we went on stage in these. If they still had to watch two ojisan-s doing that dance they'd faint."
Wistfully, Tsuyoshi ran a hand through the fabric. "And it's silver, too. Perfect for our own 25th anniversary, no?"
Kouichi let out a sigh and rubbed his temple. "Okay, okay, we'll go with your first design already. Bring on that silver wig or whatever."
Tsuyoshi smiled brightly. "Good boy."

2: Impress
Kouichi looked positively bewildered. "I know we did this a lot around the time we debuted but..."
"I can still pull this off," Tsuyoshi adjusted his hair calmly. "You, on the other hand, had better stick to the suit."
Kouichi scratched his head. "I'm not sure... It's certainly fine for our concert, but this is a semi-formal event."
"Hmm, I can do this for the concert too, but we'll need to rework the program so that I have enough time to change."
"...I'm trying to say..."
"I know," Tsuyoshi replied lightheartedly. "But I cared little what people thought of me when I was twenty-something, why would I care now?"
Kouichi considered this, and finally sighed. "I hope the audience at least have some mental preparation from seeing Nagase in hot pants three years ago."
Tsuyoshi laughed. "They've been watching over us long enough; they'll be fine."
Kouichi offered his arm as they headed out. "This still looks very wrong somehow."
"It isn't so bad since you're still in a western suit," Tsuyoshi said soothingly, taking the arm and treading carefully in his full-set women's kimono. "I can't say the same if you're wearing a matching men's kimono."
Kouichi looked thoughtful. "Should I do that for the concert, then?"

3: Cherish
"I chose these myself," Kouichi said. "So be appreciative."
"I always went personally to buy your birthday presents, too," Tsuyoshi countered. "It's just expected."
Kouichi folded his arms sulkily. "Still, it's not easy to match your taste, you know? And now you say you won't wear them."
"I will, I will. Just not all at once." Tsuyoshi lifted up the pieces of silver jewelery from the box one by one. "Otherwise I'll really look like a flashy obaachan."
"They're a matching set, why not?" Kouichi picked up the bracelet. "I even have your name engraved, look."
"Thank you," Tsuyoshi said smilingly. "Sweet of you to get me these before I start asking for them in interviews."
Kouichi fidgeted. "To be honest... Nakai-senpai called to remind me."
Tsuyoshi paused. "Oh."
"So... could you wear them to the studio for the Utaban shooting next week...?"
"I see," Tsuyoshi responded, his eyes glinting.
Uh-oh. "I really do mean to get you gifts even without that..."
"No, no, that's fine, I understand." He started putting the jewelery back into the box.
"....Tsuyoshiiii."
Tsuyoshi placed the box to the side wordlessly, then took out a drawing paper from his bag and looked at it, sighing. "I actually drew something for you this time too... but I wonder if this is just my one-sided love...?"
"I'll be very happy to receive it!" Kouichi hastened to say, both hands quickly reaching for the intended present.
Tsuyoshi held the paper away from him skeptically. "The total fourteen drawings I've given you up till now, I don't even know if you still keep them."
"I do! The Schumacher one is even up on my bedroom wall!"
Tsuyoshi bent forward. "Really?"
"Really," Kouichi nodded seriously. "I'll bring them all to the studio tomorrow to prove it to you."
Tsuyoshi finally smiled again. "It's okay. You can show me next week when we meet for the Utaban shooting."
"Sure! ...Eh?"
"So, this is for you." Tsuyoshi placed the paper in Kouichi's outstretched hands solemnly. "It's been a wonderful twenty years of working together."
"Wait a minute..."
"Be sure to bring this along with the others, all right? Nakai-senpai is really looking forward to it."
"Nakai... senpai...?"
"Oh, I haven't mentioned?" Tsuyoshi asked innocently. "He called me too."

Notes:
[1] I suppose most can guess already, it refers to
their rendition of Pink Lady's "UFO" way back in 1996 (subbed vid by
39_fansubs).
[3] I can't imagine how Nakai will look like by then but I would love to still see him in Utaban promoting KinKi love. Poking at the episode when Tsuyoshi gave Kouichi his birthday gift, and the Chichin Puipui interview when Tsuyoshi asked for the sweet tenth diamond.
