“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

What really scares me is that my fellow first year kendo-ka seem to know the names for all the moves. I know the basic kihon names and what a hiki- is, but from there I seem to get lost. Viet, you’re the worst culprit! Tell me where I can find out more of these things. I know they’re probably online, but I wish they were in books ( Read more... )

books, family, student theatre, reading, cabaret, awards night, kendo, writing

O_O *spills coffee over hakama*

My reason for everything: I did aikido for four years in high school, and there are many parallels between the two. >_<

But that's not entirely true...the forums explain heaps...I think I maybe one of the few people who's read EVERY topic and EVERY post in the forums. Oh I need a life >_< .

Lastly, if you'd prefer a book, there are some GREAT kendo books around, in English!!! Although I guess it wouldn't be much of a problem for you if it were in Japanese, considering that you study it. 'Kendo: The Definitive Guide' by Hiroshi Ozawa is the most popular one I think, and it doesn't lie when it claims to be definitive...it even comes complete with neat-little hand-drawn diagrams (read: "YAAA! TOOOH!" teeheeheehee)!! There's one other book that's always borrowed out from the Ballieu, I can't remember what it's called though.

Good luck on exams!!

the young grasshopper needs not ask for knowledge, when the student is willing, the master shall appear! Young grasshopper still has much to learn in the ways of kendo (the ways of the way of the sword... um, seems a little excessive)- when the mind is open, learning shall take place.

20 Somethings. It was 3 night only (random nights) cabaret performance which I REALLY wanted to see. And couldn't thanks to rehearsals and seeing Parthenope - Benson's play. Ah well. Hopefully they'll do another one.

Now go write. WRITE NOW I SAY.

And just keep writing through the 'this is crap' phase. you can't tell it's crap until you've actually written it.

:D

Viet: Thanks for the advice, I will try to track down that book. And I feel a tiny bit relieved that there's a really excellent reason you know WAY more than me. Don't worry, you'll get a life someday.

LOL! J/K!! =D Are you still doing aikido? If not, why did you quit and then take up kendo?

Blaine: Take your Matrix-y mumbo-jumbo; and make like a tree and leave...!

Yuhan: I actually am writing at the moment: it's a favourite form of procrastination. Hark, unfortunately, everything IS crap. But it's my crap, I'm gonna film it, by god! LOL. Perhaps what I really need a good script editor... I'm writing, but I get frustrated when I start with one thing and it doesn't seem to pan out, or if I get sidetracked (which I often do), or if I start reading it aloud to myself and then realise I'm doing so in an American accent. *That* is wrong... ;)
