Thank you for this informative and interesting post! I've been wondering about this series ever since I saw it advertised on Crunchyroll. The initial set-up sounds heartbreaking, but I do love the idea of personal growth for Yona being a central focus, and a strong familial/friendship bond between her and the guys sounds wonderful.

I'm surprised to learn it's a reverse harem series, since to me that invokes images of Love Hina or something silly like that in reverse. I guess I don't picture a harem series being serious (or not focusing on romance). Very interesting.

Well some people might consider a harem/reverse harem closer to your definition but I consider it more in the set up. One girl surrounded by a lot of guys or one guy surrounded by a lot of girls (romance may or may not be a factor ( ... )

I suppose it could be looked at in that way. I think it's that word "harem" that invokes images of romantic things for me and others.

I definitely think I would enjoy the romance angle being in the background. That quote sounds adorable and squeeful.

I'm guessing it's on Crunchyroll too, since that's where I saw it advertised. I'm thinking the manga sounds more appealing, though.

You are right it is on Crunchyroll too (and I think I watched it there when it aired) I just forgot because I know Funi had the license but it must not have been an exclusive license (at least streaming wise)

The manga is very good but it depends on if you are manga or anime person. These days I don't usually even start a manga until I watch the anime first. The anime gets me interested in reading the manga.

But the manga is here if you are interested in reading it http://www.titaniascans.com/reader/
It's sadly not licensed in the US yet so only scanlations are available.

Fangirling or any discussion is fine. I should say I am only on the Water Kingdom arc (although also spoiled about the Yellow Dragon's origin thanks to Tumblr). :)

I am not really that involved with the fandom. Have one friend on twitter and you (and I have stopped really going to tumblr) so I would never mind having someone to talk to about the series.
