Maverick~Seeds of Deception

Another episode I just re-watched and one of my favorites from the 1st season. After all it's a brother episode and I guess I agree with general consensus that two Maverick's are better than one. I also think this is the best episode of the series to deal with Holliday and Earp (and yes that includes the many appearances of Peter Breck as Holliday ( Read more... )

I love the hurt/comfort in this episode, although I was disappointed that they came to get Bret exclaiming that they weren't sure Bart would even survive, and then it's just a shoulder wound. I wanted something more intense, like Bart laying closer to death and Bret being determined to bring down the creeps who attacked him.

Good point about their gun-fighting abilities. That did seem to change from episode to episode, exasperatingly enough.

That sounds like an interesting scene from Fullmetal Alchemist. Indeed, guys show affection in a lot of odd ways sometimes. But it's neat when they're close enough that they can also feel comfortable talking things out when needed.

That's one downside of hurt/comfort: when your favorite goes down, he isn't around for much of the episode. Sigh. One reason why in the most recent Maverick fic I wrote, Bart got hurt and Beau got to be protective and cool.

Yeah the whole he may not make it is a bit unnesssary when the next minute we know he will be fine and there is no suspense there.

As for hurt/comfort I tend to like kidnapping stories because then both characters can be active participants.

Totally. I hate when shows pull an anti-climatic move like that!

Intriguing. That's definitely true. I've never actually written many kidnap stories. Hmm. Maybe I should try writing another one. Years ago, I had a couple of wildly popular kidnap/hostage stories in different fandoms.

I think the only issue with kidnapping plots is you have to come up with a good reason the person would kidnap the character and not just kill them (without making the villain seem stupid).

But it could lead to interesting stuff for both characters. Obviously the rescuer will have to worry about the other character but you can have the kidnapped character worry too especially if the villain threatens to harm the rescuer (some type of psychological torture).
