Great Article on Fanfiction from Time Magazine

Jul 20, 2011 15:10

Got this from mangaka_chan and reposting it here because I know I have a lot of fanfic writers on my FL who I think will be interested.

The article mainly deals with Harry Potter fanfiction but what it says definitely applies to all fanfic. And what's nice the author actually did their homework. I can't tell you how many times I read an article on something ( Read more... )

harry potter, fandom, fanfiction

Yeah it's really cool something like this appeared in TIME because it will even reach people who don't understand what fanfiction exactly is.

I am glad you enjoyed reading it! :)

I loved that article! I read it and then posted it on Facebook. :D I was so glad to see a sane, reasonable, well-written article about fanfiction and why people read it.

Not just fanfiction I was glad their was a sane reasonable article written about something fandom related. I am just thinking about all those horrible & misguided articles about anime (I wish someone would write a fair article about that).

Glad you shared it on facebook, it will probably reach am even larger audience there. :-)

Yes, that's true! And I agree about anime, it tends to be extremely badly represented by media as a whole. Either they generalize too much, treat it as too "weird," look down on it as an art form... It's just a mess of misrepresentations.

Your welcome I am glad you enoyed it. :)

I was also glad to see something fandom related published in a mainstream article like TIME. I am glad the author obviously put forth his best effort too.

That was very intriguing! (LOL, yes, we are mostly women, aren't we?)

...And the notion of a Tetris fic cracks me up.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah fanfic and fanart for that matter seems to be from the majority of female fans. Live journal also has more women (although message boards seem to have more male fans from what I've seen). That would be an interesting thing to do a study on I think. :)

There is probably some fanfic for almost everything out there. XD

Well, I did write a [crack] fanfic where Barbie dumps Ken and runs off with Barbie Edward. XD

This person obviously knows what she's talking about. It was also interesting, learning where the origins of the word "slash" come from. Thank you for sharing this article with us Kim! :)
