Akira Kurosawa films are so good and contemporary that they can be translated into Hollywood language without any problem. Seven Samurais is excellent and The Magnificent Seven is not less good. Yojimbo has been remade several times too as A Fistful of Dollars and Last Man Standing.
I've seen movies from the directors you've mentioned. Excellent choices!

The only remake I've seen of the above is Magnificent Seven and you are right that was a very good remake (doesn't hurt that it had a great cast, many of the same people from The Great Escape and Yul Brynner *yum*)

But of course I still prefer the Seven Samurai. :)

On another note Buster fricking Keaton will be Star of the Month on TCM in October.

That's way too cool. Enjoy the films! I'm pretty happy that the British Film Insitute is going to do a Japanese Films of the 70s run next month, and that's VERY relevant to my interests.

It's lucky you live in a city that does film stuff. I live in a big city but I feel it never does cool film things. TCM is the only way I can see neat films. I don't know what I would do without that channel.

You should come to Chicago then. There are always TONS of film fests going on!

Well that costs extra money. There is a lot of stuff in NY too which is closer but I wish there was more stuff in my city. :)

I had to use Google, but I agree with you on Miyazaki. "Kiki's Delivery Service" is really the only anime movie that I really love, even before I really knew what anime was. Though, I've seen the movie with the American actors. No way would I be able to follow it in the original Japanese. XD [That is, assuming it came out in the Japanese language first.]

Why not there are subtitles

The Ghibli dubs are generally pretty good but with the exception of Howl's Moving Castle I still prefer the original Japanese for most of the Ghibli films including Kiki.

It is from Japan :)

Ah, well if there are subtitles that's different. I meant that I don't speak a word of Japanese.

I also love Phil Hartman as Jiji, since I'm a big Saturday Night Live fan.

I actually think it somewhat takes away from a performance when a famous actor is voicing the character. Although sometimes I enjoy it, it becomes more about the famous actor's voice than the character's voice.

I always watch my anime subtitled (well I enjoy some dubs too but I will always watch the original first).
