I think you would like House of Fiive Leaves as you like anime in historical settings. It's a bit slow at times but I think it has nice character development, good drama, and a great ending.
I understand what you are saying about House of Five Leaves. It was a bit slow at first and it wasn't a series I was even anticipating from week to week but in the end it really stunk up on me and I do think the last few episodes were great. I guess it is how it all came together for me.
I haven't seen Ristorante Paradiso that series didn't interest me. Maybe this one did because of the setting.
I just saw dissapearance yesterday... boy, wasn't it spectacular O_O it kind of shocked me that Yuki was responsible for all this but I'm happy everyone managed to solve it^^
I remember when I read the book I was shocked at first it was Yuki too but when we look at her changes throughout the series it makes sense. It was a nice way to add development for the character (and from what I read of the novels she continues to develop too). :)
