...It's really hard to explain and I feel kind of weird, but I'm actually kind of happy and excited that we get to see the series through to the end. I mean, I'll miss it, and I might wind up feeling waaaay different after I've read the chapter, but right now I'm happy that one of my favorite series is going to get a good conclusion and not wind up as a "zombie series" with people arguing that it should've ended here-or-there.
It's... really weird and completely opposite of how I thought I'd feel at the end of the series.
Well it's not like I wanted the series to become your typical shounen never ending story but I knew for a long time it wasn't going to become that. You could tell Arakawa had a plan and was not just saying she knew how it was going to end.
So yeah part of me is excited to see the ending too and I have the utmost faith it will be wonderful ,but I am sad too. because once it ends that's it. The manga has a been a good part of my life for so long and the monthly chapter was always something to look forward to and now I won't have that. I am sad about that not so sad to see the manga come to a natural conclusion.
Oh no, I never thought anyone was sad about the manga coming to a natural conclusion. I just feel kind of weird because my excitement is stronger than my sadness about the series ending. FMA's been by "backbone" series for most of high school and all of college (like it's been for a lot of fans I think), so I know I'll be sad to see it end - but I think the sadness for me is going to hit after everything's all over. Like a delayed reaction or something.

I've always appreciated that but at the same time I still worried about it a bit until the final chapter was announced. Worried about, I don't know, editorial pressure keeping the series going, or something similar that has nothing to do with Arakawa's storytelling ability.
Oh I see what you are saying for me the feelings are a mixture of excitement and sadness. I think I will be more excited when the chapter finally comes out and then sad again in July when I realize there is no new chapter. But that is why I say it is bitter sweet.
And from your comment above
I think that's the mark of a really good story. :D
