So in my rewatch of X-Files I decided to try to come up with my favorite episodes. Well these are my favorite MOTW episodes are stand alones. I also included a few honorable mentions
( Read more... )
I am actually not sure why I didn't include Beyond the Sea . I do like it a lot but then I tend to not rewatch it so much. Maybe that's why.
As for season 7 there are other episodes I enjoy but I guess nothing really stands out like the Genie one did for me. :)
Maybe I should just make my own post and stop pestering you, haha. But I don't know if I want to open the door to X-Files Memory Lane, I get too nostalgic :(
Oh but you are not pestering me you are one of my few friends who understands my X-Files love. And it's good to get nostalgic sometimes right? :)
And I completely agree with you about seasons 8 and 9. I think if they ended at season 7 with the ending scene in the actual series finale (showing that Mulder did come back for Scully) and got rid of the rest of season 8 and 9 including Scully's pregnancy that would have been perfect for me. But oh well.
edit: And I think I need to watch the Pine Bluff Variant Now. Somehow I am in the mood for that one.
Wow seriously all the epis you posted about I love. Only one I would have also included was Humbug since I still think that epi is great. Mulder striking the pose at the end was brillant.
Paper Hearts I adored, seriously much love for that epi. I was going crazy along with Mulder during that one.
Bad Blood is also near the top of my list mostly for Mulder's "Oh shi-" XD
Oh Humbug is another great one. That's when Scully eats a cricket. XD
My favorite part of Bad Blood is in Scully's version when Mulder wakes up and sings the Shaft theme song. Also I love when he laughs evilly that Scully has to do another autopsy. XD
Oh wow, what a fantastic selection. I love all of those except maybe How the Ghosts Stole Christmas which is entertaining but a bit thin on content for me. As you say, it's a real opinion-divider.
Other Standalone Favourites of Mine:
Beyond the Sea Fresh Bones Humbug Oubliette Grotesque Avatar Home Unruhe Leonard Betts Kill Switch The Pine Bluff Variant Drive Triangle Monday Hungry Theef Roadrunners Invocation 4-D
EDIT: I watched Irresistible for the first time when I was watching the entire series last summer and it was the only one I watched through my weary 20 year-old eyes that scared the shit out of me. Which says a lot about how disturbing that episode was.
I think if I had to choose then Humbug is my favourite Darin Morgan script. I love all his episodes, and the ones he did for Millennium, but Humbug is probably the least...indulgent I suppose and definitely the tightest script of the lot with a more straightforward narrative. And it's hysterically funny, which helps!
Oubliette definitely needs more love! Really underlooked stuff and extremely powerful, thanks mainly to David Duchovny.
The X-Files really does contain a ton of greatness. There are so many more episodes I adore that I had to leave off or else the list would be insanely long.

I agree that Oubliette is very good and it does have a great performance by David. I think I just picked Paper Hearts as the best kidnapped related story since I think it is even better than Oubliette. Although I love Mulder in general in those type of episodes. He always breaks my heart.
Oh god, it's been too long...ironclad1609March 25 2008, 20:37:49 UTC
I am definitely with you on Bad Blood, that one was fantastic. I also loved Home, it was one of the creepiest.
I also remember that I thought "wow this just gets better and better" for several episodes during Season Six, when they were making fun of themselves a lot and tried some weirder ideas (Triangle and Monday come to my mind). Loved that.
I so need to rewatch the whole show, I know I loved a lot of episodes, but can hardly remember the German titles not to mention the original ones ^^

It really is such a nice scene. But watching them break his finger always makes me cringe.

Still the best X-Files video I've ever seen.
EDIT: We still never know what is up with Scully never dying though.
Tithonus from season six. If it's not that then I'll eat my hat.
