The changing room was still empty when Hiromitsu entered it, having arrived early. He was about to put his bags away when he heard a crash from the practice room next door. Throwing his things into the corner he hurried over to the door, pushing it open. He immediately recognized the person who was lying on the floor a few meters away from him in a crumpled heap. “Taisuke!”
“Hiro…?!” the other looked up in surprise and Hiromitsu could also see a traces of shock and fear cross his band mate’s features for a second. What was Taisuke afraid of??
He walked over to Taisuke, offering him a hand to help him up again. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine…sorry…You’re early today…” he apologized with a slightly shaky voice.
What was wrong with Taisuke today? Usually he wouldn’t be so…well…Hiromitsu didn’t quite know how to describe it….timid, maybe. “You’re early yourself…How long have you been skating this morning already? You’re all sweaty…” he asked.
“Well…there’s more space when nobody’s around yet and I don’t have to take care as to not overrun anybody…”
“Ah sou…I guess that’s a good idea. Care if I join you? I’ll change and warm up…”
“S…Sure…Go ahead…” Taisuke tried to smile. Hiromitsu frowned a little. Something was wrong with his friend today. Speaking of it, he remembered Taisuke crying during the volleyball practice as well…being the only one who hadn’t managed to master the serve. Usually the other would just brush that off and say he’d try again until he did manage to do it…but not huddle down and cry…and just now…he couldn’t remember a time when Taisuke had ever fallen while skating…he and Taisuke were Kiss-my-Ft.’s best skaters after all…
He changed into sweatpants and t-shirt before he started warming up and then put on his own skates. “Were you practicing the new routine for the next shounen club performance?” he asked, while he did a few simple turns.
Taisuke nodded, “Yeah…I still forget when to stop and start singing…do you remember? Oh…no, you wouldn’t know because your part is different from mine…”
“Well, maybe you’ll remember if you have me as a fix-point or something…I mean, you stop when I am moving…”
“Oh…right…Let’s try?”
“Hai!”
It went well at first, nothing out of the ordinary but then Hiromitsu noticed Taisuke’s expression. Somehow the other seemed awfully tense…and if his eyes weren’t betraying him…Taisuke was trembling…and…wait why was Taisuke so close all of a sudden…??!!
WHAM!
They crashed into each other and tumbled onto the mats which lined the gym. “Itai…!”
“Hiro! I’m sorry…I’m sorry…did I hurt you? I’m sorry…I’m such an idiot…I messed up again…I…”
“Taisuke…!” he was about to say something when he saw tears sparkling in his friend’s eyes. “Taisuke, why are you crying? It’s not that bad…don’t worry, I’m fine…!”
Sniffing and trying to wipe the tears, Taisuke sat up shakily. “Sorry…”
“What are you sorry for? Tapi…what’s wrong with you?” he used the other’s nickname purposely, trying to create a more comfortable atmosphere.
With another small sob, Taisuke shook his head, “Nothing…Sorry…I’m just being stupid again…I…I should get this sorted out…now I’m already getting on your nerves…”
“You’re not getting onto my nerves! I’m worried about you…you…” he paused a little. “I noticed your smile changing lately…you don’t smile brightly anymore…it just looks like a fake smile forced onto your face for the camera…though…I have to admit it’s always as good as Kato’s…”
“…Hiro…I…” Taisuke’s voice was quiet and it broke a little. “I’m afraid of being left behind…I’ve been good for nothing lately…I sucked at the volleyball games…I couldn’t even play dodge ball…I keep messing up the skating routines…” he sobbed again. “And you…you seem…you seem so far ahead already…”
Hiromitsu was confused, what did the other mean? What was Taisuke so afraid of? Those things hadn’t mattered to him a few months back…?!
“…I don’t want to be separated from you…” the words were quiet, not more than a whisper.
“Eh? What do you mean by that? Why should we be separated? We’re in Kiss-my-Foot together…!”
“…but…if you get better an all…don’t you think you’ll be put into another group? And…and since I can’t keep up with you…I wouldn’t be able to go with you…”
“Baka!”
Taisuke looked up at that, looking at Hiromitsu in surprise. The other barely got loud…
“You idiot…there’s no way we’re going to get separated…and that you’re good for nothing is just your imagination, Taisuke…you’re good! You can do many things! People notice you, Tapi…just look and watch more closely. They see you…trust me, they do…” he smiled gently, “…and even more so when you’re smiling. When you’re smiling…you glow…a little…it makes you look…” Hiromitsu searched for the right word,”…beautiful…”
Brown eyes looked at him from behind a veil of light brown hair. “Hiro…-chan…”
Hugging Taisuke close to him, Hiromitsu murmured, “Don’t worry…I won’t leave you behind…now…get your confidence back up! I want to see you smile again!”
Closing his eyes, Taisuke let the last teardrops slide down his cheeks, his lips curving up in a happy smile.
About half an hour later more and more of the juniors started to come in and when Totsuka entered the practice room he was almost run over by Taisuke, who hugged him and yelled, “MORNING TOTSUUUUU~!” before speeding off on his skates again, twirling around happily and then greeting Tsukada as well.
“Looks like Tapi is back to his genki self?” the dark haired ABC member noted, a grin tugging on his face as well.
Tsukada laughed, “Yes, it does…and somehow the practice room has gotten a bit lighter again…”
“Looks like Mitsu talked some sense into him…” Totsuka cocked his head over to where the other member of Kiss-my-Foot was being pounced by the hyper Taisuke and they started twirling around, laughing.
Goseki popped up out of nowhere, “Happy End then?”
“Looks like it,” the last member of ABC - Kawaii - nodded, joining the other three.
“Now that this matter is out of the way…let’s get practicing.”
“Yosha!”
