He sees Senga’s bright, smiling face and then the other hands him something that looks like a crystal ball, colored in their Kisumai colors, blue and green. The colors are mingling and mixing, creating a shade of turquoise here, a greenish-blue there and a bluish-green at yet another place. He sees his hands holding the crystal ball and feels himself smiling back at Senga but suddenly the ball cracks and breaks into sparkling shards.

This is when Nikaido wakes up from his dream and lifts up his hands as if to check for any cuts and blood on them caused by the breaking crystal ball. He’s overcome by a feeling of loss and maybe even fear. Did the dream mean that he and Senga…what he and Senga had would be breaking apart soon? And did it mean that it would be his fault? He had been the one holding the crystal ball that symbolized the two of them after all, symbolized their relationship…

A soft snoring noise from next to him averts his attention and he notices how he and Senga have moved away from each other in their sleep…probably because it had gotten a bit warm in the room during the night. The weather had taken a turn for the hot and humid temperatures lately.

Nikaido’s eyes rest on the small gap between them for a few moments and he tries to pry his mind away from those thoughts. Yes, he’s superstitious but he tries to deny it when it comes to Senga and him. Senga is the exception to the rule… or at least that’s what Nikaido hopes and thinks the other is. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a little cloud of doubt and uncertainty left hanging above him though.

He tries to act normal when Senga wakes up a bit later and seems surprised to find him already awake. “Aw…I wanted to wake you up again…” the other smiles sleepily and stretched.

“If you keep waking me up like that I’ll have a heart-attack one day…” Nikaido mumbles softly and gets off the bed. “Take your time waking up, I’m going to shower,” he announces and then without another word, walks to the bathroom and closes the door behind himself. When he’s under the shower he keeps hearing the sound of glass breaking.

He forgets about the dream once work starts to kick in again and everything is overshadowed by the concert and the rush of adrenaline on stage. The happy smiles of the fans and of his group members make Nikaido think of different things than his dream from the morning. It all comes rushing back once the show is over though and they’re getting ready to leave. When he nods off for a bit while waiting for the rest of them to get done, Nikaido suddenly sees an image of Senga himself breaking into pieces underneath his fingers.

When he declines the other’s request to sit next to each other on the train and opts to sit with Yokoo instead, he can feel several sets of eyes on him but he doesn’t really care. The image of Senga’s smile breaking under his fingertips haunts him for the rest of the way back and the entire night and he doesn’t end up sleeping until the wee hours of morning when it’s only thanks to the concert induced exhaustion that he gets some shut eye.

Nikaido knows he’s not the best when it comes to being troubled and to hiding things from other people, especially Senga. By the second day everyone’s noticed that he’s avoiding the other and that there’s something wrong with him. His temper flares more easily than it usually does and the tendencies to be all gloomy and quiet get stronger. The emotional rollercoaster only adds to his irritation and it’s a vicious circle.

At night he lies in bed awake and things about what to do. The dreams tell him that he’s breaking everything…that he’s breaking Senga. He doesn’t want it to happen but at the same time he does not want to break their relationship either. Nikaido loves the other too much to be able to say the words that would put an end to everything. He can see the sad looks the other’s throwing his way and it tears him up on the inside. Nikaido knows that maybe he can prevent worse things from happening if he ‘cleanly’ breaks Senga now so that the other will be able to put himself together again…but really, he doesn’t want to see it, doesn’t want to do it.

The dreams keep returning again and again though and Nikaido thinks that maybe some higher power is really trying to tell him something with that.

“Taka, we’ll be out until tonight…there’s food in the fridge if you want,” his mother calls out to him and he rolls over on the bed. He hasn’t slept a wink and it’s already 10 in the morning.

“Okay…” he replies and lets his head fall back into his pillows. He’s halfway to dreamland when he feels the bed shift and a pair of arms wrapping themselves around him. Immediately, he jerks up but the arms hold him down. Now that he’s more awake he can tell they’re familiar and nothing to be afraid of. Or maybe they were what he was most afraid of that moment.

“Senga…you…why are you here? How did you get in?” he asks, trying to turn around to face the other but Senga’s hold is firm and the other presses his forehead against his back.

“I was about to enter the house when your parents left so they let me in…” Senga replies and tightens his hold on Nikaido. “Nika-chan say…why…why have you been avoiding me? It feels like I haven’t seen you in forever even though we’ve met at work all the time… but whenever I turn around you’re gone…it feels lonely…even with all the others around…”

Feeling the guilt well up inside of him, Nikaido gives in and tells Senga about his dreams and what he thinks that they might mean. “…I didn’t want to hurt you…” he finishes in a quiet voice.

“You already did…you idiot…” Senga rolls them around so that he’s hovering over Nikaido and looking down into the other’s eyes. “I have no idea about the meaning of dreams or whatever but… I don’t think that things breaking are a bad thing all the time…? What if that was an egg? If an egg breaks… something new comes out of it, right? Something better…”

Looking up at the other, Nikaido is about to retort something, “But what about your-“ but Senga cuts him off mid-question by pressing their lips together and then sliding his tongue into the other’s mouth. It’s unusual for Senga to take the initiative, to take the lead…and Nikaido admits that he usually doesn’t let the other do so but right now Senga’s presence doesn’t permit him to be stopped. So Nikaido lets him do as he pleases. He doesn’t feel 100% comfortable doing it but his mind is still revolving around the other’s words.

Senga has them both undressed in what feels like less than a second and Nikaido's mind barely registers the other reaching for the lube and probing his entrance with his fingers. It's like it's not the first time that their roles are reversed when they are. And that realization doesn't kick in until the other moves to position himself, the tip of Senga's cock pressing against him.

Catching hold of Senga's wrist, Nikaido looks at the other wearily, insecurity showing clearly on his face, “K-Kento…”

“Don’t worry…I’ll be gentle… You’re always so caring about me so I’ll make sure to return the favor,” Senga smiles reassuringly and kisses him again before he moves his hips and Nikaido squeezes his eyes shut to deal with the stinging pain that runs through his body for a split second.

For a moment he regrets letting things go but then he feels Senga… around him, inside of him…telling him to relax and to trust in the other.

Nikaido hesitates for just a moment but then he takes Senga’s hand and squeezes it tightly before he lets go of all the restraints and follows his boyfriend’s lead. Senga always trusted him blindly…and if one really loved someone…that was the appropriate thing to do after all.

When they hold each other afterwards, the smile on Senga’s face is the same as usual and yet different Nikaido notices. Just like they are…they’re still the same and yet there’s something different between them now, something more than there was before. He thinks that maybe the dreams had meant nothing else but a change in their relationship after all and he thinks that he doesn’t really mind this change all that much really…

“…love you, Nika-chan…” Senga mumbles in his sleep as he snuggles against him and Nikaido smiles fondly, running his fingers through the other’s wavy brown hair. Changes were good but he’d be okay with it if some things never changed at all.

“Love you, too, Kenpi…” Senga’s lips curling up into a smile is the last thing he sees before sleep claims him as well, with no dreams coming to haunt him this time.
