Stealing this meme, I think - even if I have only barely celebrated Christmas after moving away from my parents. My boyfriend and I have lived in foreign countries for years, so celebrating with anyone except each other is rare - and neither of us really celebrate Christmas anyway.
We lived in the US for 5 years, and travelling back to Denmark for the very few days of vacation we got was just not an option, especially since we had very little money - working as teaching assistants and research assistants to pay the tuition. This meant we kind of got out of the habit of visiting family during Christmas...and we did not really get into the habit again after moving back to Europe (Northern Sweden, right now).
But, I guess if celebrating Christmas was something we really enjoyed, we would probably set aside the time to do so, and to travel to visit family - though our current jobs doesn't really give us much time to do so either.
