Summary: It's called the 'gift' or 'soul' by most. A strange, mysterious force only few possess on the planet that is half ocean and half desert. The people on the plant have lived in harmony with each other and their environment for centuries but something yet unknown is threatening to throw everything into chaos.
“Two people, two hearts, two lives, become one heart, one mind, one new life together.”
(- Unknown)
One should never underestimate the power of a single soul, for it can be more powerful than the greatest force known to men. Two souls acting as one could thus become something almost unstoppable. But only if they could truly be one.
To be one meant not to be the same and yet not to be different either. There were only few even among the most trained, most skilled, who completely understood that soul paradox.
Senga and Nikaido were two individuals who shared a closer bond than most. They often did not have to consciously make an effort to bond it would happen almost naturally.
The room was completely empty except for the two of them in its center. Nikaido followed Senga’s movements. He tried to mimic every single one perfectly so that they were in complete synch. Their souls reacted whenever they managed to do so. And that was the point of the whole exercise.
None of their feet were touching the ground as they danced through the room, glided through the air, mirror images of one another. They followed each other with their souls. Their eyes were closed.
When Nikaido pressed his lips against Senga’s gently but hungrily the next moment, the dance came to an end. They came to a stop, landed on the solid ground again. Arms came around hips, hands grabbed onto tunics, fingers tangled themselves into hair. It was a new dance with new movements that were perfectly synchronized.
“Takashi,” Senga breathed softly once their lips parted again.
“What?” Nikaido grumbled in reply.
Senga licked his lips and looked into the other’s eyes, “Why’d you wait with this for so long? It’s been days since you came back!”
“All you had to do is ask, Kento,” Nikaido retorted.
“You were feeling lazy?” Senga teased gently and giggled softly. Touching the other’s cheek he added, “I don’t mind, though. I know you can be like that. Waiting makes it feel even better, too.”
“Sometimes I wonder whether or not there isn’t a really, really big masochist in you,” Nikaido raised an eyebrow but then tugged on the other’s tunic, making it slide off effortlessly. “Since I know you’re not an idiot. Or well, at least not all the time.”
“Hey!”
Nikaido’s slender fingers kept working. “None of that. Also, keep quiet unless you want Fujigaya or Yokoo barging in. Or worse, Master Takizawa. I locked the door but if they hear anything down in the courtyard we’d probably wish we were dead instead of going through what they’d have in store.”
Shivering - at both the air brushing over his bare skin and the thought of ‘creative punishments’ - Senga nodded. He then finally undid the knots holding Nikaido’s clothes together and watched the garment unravel in front of him with fascination. His eyes roamed over the expanses of skin revealed underneath, making Nikaido squirm a little bit despite himself and the situation.
“Hungry eyes,” Nikaido muttered and pulled Senga’s head forward again for a kiss. “Guess I’ll have to satisfy that hunger, huh?”
“Hm, that sounds like a really good idea,” Senga smiled.
“How do you want to do this?” Nikaido asked. His eyes were clouded with lust but his mind was still clear enough as not to rush into things.
Senga pulled Nikaido closer, sought out skin on skin contact. “Just touch me.”
“You sure that’s enough?”
“It will be,” Senga ensured. “No matter what, I have all of you, no?”
Snorting softly, Nikaido nodded, “I guess you have a point there.” He kissed Senga briefly and then leaned his forehead against Senga’s. “Me and you.”
“Two minds, two bodies, one soul,” Senga replied.
Arm in arm, they sunk down onto the pile of their discarded clothes. Once there, Nikaido’s fingers ghosted over Senga’s chest, abdomen and finally slid between the other’s thighs, crawled towards the heat, towards the pulse he could feel throbbing there. He felt how Senga’s hand made its way down his own body as well, their movements not perfect mirror images now but close enough.
Nikaido hissed softly with pleasure when the other’s hand closed around his cock, while Senga let out a sigh. It felt good but both of them wanted more.
Their fingers moved over heating flesh, stroking, rubbing, pumping. After a while their breathing was getting more labored, came out in soft gasps. It was hard not to make any other sounds.
Words had been completely forgotten right now. They didn’t need them. They were unnecessary, redundant. The two were no longer thinking, they were just living, just feeling. With their souls already deeply entwined with each other, they now longed for their bodies to do the same. Or at least, get as close to it as they possibly could right now.
Nikaido lowered his hips more, in need of more physical proximity, more friction. His hardened cock brushed against Senga’s and a breathy moan left his lips. He had to bite his lip to keep in a louder sound as the other wrapped his hand around both of them and increased the contact. Nikaido decided to do the same and when he did, the tips of his fingers brushed Senga’s gently.
A soft keening noise fell from Senga’s lips and Nikaido kissed the other to swallow it up, to silence the other again. And to silence himself as well.
The soft ripple going through their entwined soul colors was the harbinger of what was to come. When their combined sensations washed over them, both Nikaido and Senga allowed themselves to make a sound. They spoke each other’s names like a prayer, like a thank you to whoever had enabled them to come together like this, to bond like this. A thank you to a higher power, their surroundings, their friends and themselves.
“Takashi.”
“Kento.”

Kwa’agnaa was very busy still. Merchants moved into the capital and curious ‘tourists’ moved out of it. For the merchants it was sometimes vital to be first or at least to be fast with their deliveries and trades. Prices and demand didn’t sit and wait after all. The sooner you got to a potential client, the more likely it was for that potential client to become an actual buyer.
On top of the usual busy movements to and from the city, came the festival preparations. Celebrations were already going on here and there. All the sailors, captains and those otherwise related to the profession were resting and enjoying themselves. It was their holiday after all. The merchants and traders were as busy as usual though.
Yokoo and Iida moved against the stream of merchants and with the stream of the people moving onto the floating city from the capital. Despite Takizawa’s approval of using other methods, unconventional methods, of travelling to the city, the two had opted for the normal way to avoid problems. Aside from that, Yokoo had finally gotten word from his family. To meet them, he had no other way but to go the normal way. They didn’t know any details about what he was and what he was doing. The ghayi, to them, was a high class academy in the capital of some sorts that Yokoo had been accepted into. Nobody had ever told them any details and they had never asked. After all, Yokoo seemed to be making a living out of it and seemed to be alive and well whenever they saw him.
Before he and Iida would go to meet his family, the two were making a detour to the Fael’ay Tower of Kwa’agnaa. It was at the heart of every city. And it was literally the heart of the city. It was the most central and essential construction. The captain and his crew were situated in it, as well as the whole technology keeping the city alive and on the move.
The tower wasn’t the single highest building in the city. There were many more buildings rising high up into the sky but despite that, the tower still had a good view of all sides. A captain would also coordinate the city’s defense systems from this tower. As such a vital part, of course it had special security systems build into and around it. Compared to the other buildings, it would always be by far the sturdiest. Only the whole ship it and the city rested on would be built from sturdier and better material.
Yokoo looked up the sleek, round tower and shielded his eyes from the sun. He couldn’t really tell that anything was off. But that’s why he had brought Iida along.
“Feel anything? Or hear anything?” he asked.
Iida was looking at the tower as well but at the same time he wasn’t really looking. His eyes were distant and they were indeed seeing something different than what was before him.
Suddenly his eyes flashed white and the staggered. Yokoo’s quick reflexes kept him from falling onto the ground. “Kyohei? What’s wrong? What did you see? What were you told?”
“Give me a moment,” Iida closed his eyes and leaned heavily against the other. “I need to try and make sense of it for myself first. Or I won’t be able to tell you anything coherent.” He took a few deep breaths, withdrew into his mind and tried to sort through everything.
Nodding, Yokoo just stood there and waited, holding Iida steady and on his feet. He was used to this, he had been around the other long enough.
Finally, Iida opened his eyes again. A dark frown appeared on his face. “Master Takizawa is not going to like this at all. All of us aren’t, for that matter, I guess.”
“What is it? Can you tell me?” Yokoo asked.
“I’m sorry but I think we’ll have to cut the meeting with your family short. I’m going to send word back to the ghayi requesting for Master Takizawa to see us the moment we get back. We have until dusk though. I know from Fukazawa that Master Takizawa headed out this morning for some business downtown. Most likely that he went to talk with beneficiaries from the Maggra or, well, other contacts. He did tell you that he was also trying to look into this, right?”
“Yes, he did,” Yokoo confirmed. “Well, we’ll be staying on Kwa’agnaa for a while. My family will see more of me after today. They’ll manage. I’ll manage, too, before you ask.”
Iida laughed and closed his mouth again. “You know me well.”
“As you know me.”
A time signal could be heard over the noise of the bustling people moving around them. “It’s time. I told them we’d be at the roof garden east of the river. It should be less crowded there since none of the main roads connects to it directly and it’s a living and not a merchant quarter.”
“Lead the way,” Iida nodded. As they started walking, he added, “You know, Wataru, young captain Hashimoto seems to be a man with a gift only few have realized he has. I’m glad the head at the university recognized it. I think great things lie ahead of our friends and we can set our minds at peace and know them in good hands.”
“More to it than meets the eye, huh?” Yokoo commented and smiled. “With you saying things like that, I wonder what lies ahead of our friends in the future.”
“If possible, we should watch over him and his movements - watch over them all.”
“Suddenly that sounds like a bad and unnerving thing,” Yokoo raised his eyebrow. “You sounded a little more positive a few moments ago.”
Iida gave the other a small smile in return, “I wish I could say that only good things will await them but I’m afraid I can’t. Life rarely ever works that way, right?”
Sighing softly, Yokoo said, “I wish you wouldn’t speak the truth so often.”
He didn’t voice it out loud but Iida could only agree with the other’s words. Sometimes he wished that his words would not hold as much truth and as much strength as they did most of the time. Even now, after seeing his prophecies fulfilled again and again, he would still hope against all hope sometimes.
A warm hand grabbing his pulled him out of his thoughts again and he looked over to his companion.
“Stop thinking about depressing things and serious things for now?” the other asked with a smile. “At least until dusk. Until then, let’s have fun together.”
Squeezing the other’s hand - it was a reflex more than a conscious action - Iida nodded, “Let’s.”
