yararanger requested YamaRyo lost in a city + Yara thrown in there somewhere ♥ *snuggles* So here goes the "long" one? :D

The night was cold and it was raining heavily. Yamamoto felt disoriented and miserable. He was only wearing thin scrubs and a stolen jacket and his body was starting to go numb from the cold. His body functions were already starting to reduce themselves to the bare minimum.

At least it looked like his pursuers had given up for the time being. They had all spread out, gone this direction and that. None of them knew where they were really. None of them had known where the research facility had been located after all. None of them had ever seen the sunlight, or at least real sunlight, while they had been kept inside of it.

He looked around. There weren’t that many people outside. Yamamoto couldn’t blame them. He wouldn’t want to be out in this weather at this time of the day either if he had a choice.

Tall, high rise buildings stood around him, one looking like the next. Yamamoto felt lost and alone all of a sudden. In a different way than he had felt before. At the facility, he’d been kept isolated from the others after a while, been locked into a cell all by himself but he’d known that the others were still there. It made him feel less lonely when he was, well alone. It had been easy to imagine someone next door in the other cells, in the other cubes. Maybe Eda had been there, maybe Takahashi or Hayashi or Sakuma or any of the others.

Yamamoto wondered where the others were now. Had everyone made it? Had anyone been caught?

Would they ever find each other again in the sheer endless city?

Realizing that he didn’t even know where to go and what to do right now, Yamamoto just wandered down the street he was on aimlessly.

It hadn’t occurred to him until now that he didn’t have a clue about how to proceed now. Before, it had been clear. The only thought on his mind had been to run away and escape. But now what? He didn’t know where he was. He didn’t know where his family was or even who they were. Those memories had been erased from his mind, stolen from him, long ago. He didn’t know how much time had passed ever since he’d ended up in the facility. He’d just woken up there one day.

The cold ate itself deeper into his body, seeping through the clothes and clutching at him with ice-cold fingers. Looking up, he found himself in front of a pet-shop. Apparently it wasn’t just some pet shop but one that offered more exotic animals. The display of snakes curled up inside their glass cages calmed him somehow. He pressed his hand against the cool glass of the shop window.

Brothers. Sisters.

He smiled as a couple of the snakes raised their heads to look at him, tongues flicking in and out of their mouths. Unfortunately he couldn’t hear what they were saying.

And the next moment, he couldn’t even see them any longer as the world around him went black and he collapsed onto the sidewalk with a wet sound. His strength had left him and his body had become too cold to move anymore. All his senses had switched to hibernation.

When Yamamoto opened his eyes again, he blinked as he found himself lying on a soft bed. Immediately his flight reflexes kicked in and he shot up. A bad idea because his head started spinning the moment he did so and he had to lie down again. When he did, he noticed that this wasn’t a cell. The room looked different, smelled different and felt different. Also, he could hear the rain splashing against a window.

The cells didn’t have windows.

“Oh good, you’re awake,” a voice spoke up and Yamamoto’s head turned sideways.

He saw a male walking into the room, carrying a mug with a spoon inside of it. Steam was rising from it and a sweet smell filled the air. It was a nice smell.

“Where?” he asked weakly, “Who? How? Why?”

“Ah, so many questions,” the man sat down next to the bed and set the mug down on the bedside table. He touched Yamamoto’s forehead gently. “Mh, you feel warmer again, too. That’s good. Can you sit? I made some tea with honey if you want?”

Yamamoto tried to sit up again, slower this time. He didn’t sense any threat from the male so it was okay for the time being. The tea smelled good, too. Food and drink at the facility…he didn’t even remember when he’d eaten properly. They had probably just infused him with things.

“Here,” the other handed him the mug then. “If you want more, I made a whole pot.”

“Thank you,” Yamamoto bowed his head slightly and took a sip carefully. It was hot!

“As to who I am and why you’re here and how we got here,” the man started to talk again. “My name is Yara. Yara Tomoyuki. I saw you when you were looking at the snakes in the shop and then you collapsed. I brought you inside. This is above the shop. I’m watching it for a friend who went on holiday.” Yara told Yamamoto. “I ran out to see if you were okay and you were so cold! What were you thinking wearing only that thin stuff outside in this weather?”

Yamamoto looked down, “I didn’t have anything else.”

“You…did you run away from home or something?” Yara asked.

“You could say that, I guess?” Yamamoto nodded. “Or well, I don’t really remember where home is. I was suddenly here. I don’t even know where here is. “

Yara looked at the young male and he felt his heart reach out towards the other. The boy looked lost. Earnestly lost. It made him feel like helping the other even more.

“What’s your name?”

Yamamoto looked up and into Yara’s eyes, “Yamamoto. Yamamoto Ryota.” At least that was the name he could remember. He didn’t know whether it was his name or not. It had been the only thing on his mind when he had woken up at the facility. Maybe it had been someone from his past, who’d been important to him, who knows. The scientists had never really named him. They’d just called him test subject and assigned him a random number and code.

“Yamamoto-kun then,” Yara nodded.

“I…thank you for helping me,” Yamamoto bowed down deeply. “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”

Yara shook his head and pushed Yamamoto back. “It’s okay. Don’t apologize.”

A normal person would have probably been suspicious and rejected Yamamoto but not so Yara. He’d suffered from an injury in his youth which had landed him in hospital. After the surgery he remembered waking up completely disoriented. He didn’t have any recollection of being brought to the hospital or being injured. There had just been pain and a strange environment, wires and machines, which had made weird, annoying sounds.

His family had come in then, yes but for a few moments, he hadn’t even been able to recognize them, or even himself. His mind had just drawn a blank, which had sent him into a state of panic. It had taken four hours for him to recover from the temporary amnesia caused by the injury and the surgery. But he could still remember how terrified and confused he had been. And that his mother’s calm and loving behavior had helped him to calm down and stay calm and not injure himself even more.

So he could somewhat relate to Yamamoto. Waking up, not knowing where you were and what had happened…

“You can stay here for the night? Maybe things will look different in the morning,” he offered. “I put your clothes into the wash as well. They were wet and dirty after all. You’re in luck since you’re about the same size as me so my things fit you pretty well.”

Yamamoto looked down at those words and noticed that he was wearing different clothes. “Thank you, Yara-san. You’re very kind. I don’t know how to repay you for this kindness!”

“Don’t worry about it. Drink up and sleep? Maybe that’ll help,” Yara smiled. “Oh and ‘here’ is just outside of Tokyo by the way. If that helps.”

“A bit,” Yamamoto managed to muster a small smile as well.

The smile touched something in Yara’s heart. “Good. I’ll be sleeping next door, so if you need me just call me or something?” He rose from the chair again. “Good night, Yamamoto-kun.”

“Good night, Yara-san.”
