Jun 04, 2009 20:16

Another week, another post for the Gluey Tart column over at The Hooded Utilitarian. This is not a happy post. The last four yaoi manga I read -- did not please me ( Read more... )

One thing (and you can delete this once you've seen it) - you've got seme and uke reversed in the writeup.

But other than that - there's some seriously bleh writing out there, published or not. (And the girly men can *really* annoy me.) Hopefully you're out of the rut soon!

Oh, dear; yes I did. Fixed it, and thank you! (No need to delete - I'm capable of more impressive errors than that!)

It's a side effect of having so much yaoi being published, I think. A huge percentage of anything is going to be bad, whatever it is, so the more choices we have, the more bad choices we have. I really do need to start thinking for a moment before I order these things. Because what looks good in the heat of the moment -- can turn out to be Manhattan Love Story.

And I did just finish a good one. Huzzah!

Rurouni Kenshin fic recs: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/330325/Nekotsuki I particularly like "Snow Blind" but it's a WIP and hasn't been updated in a while. :( She's also on LJ as whiteadelphi.

Another story (definitely AU though) by whiteadelphi is located here in her journal set up for "Zaibatsu Project", very influenced by Cyberpunk 2020. It's also a WIP and I found it extremely interesting.

Oh, thank you! I don't mind unfinished or WIP, especially when there isn't much to read. And I love AU. Something to look forward to!

I adore Kenshin, my first anime obsession, especially in his OAV assassin days, but I never considered him a good subject for slash. Yes, Nunn's Shifting the Balance is a good yarn; I'm sorry she never finished it. I seldom came across much RK fic that was readable. The best stories I can recall involved Soujiro, and I shall try to find them for you! And a couple of Saitoh/Sano. My, it feels like reaching back decades, doesn't it...

Try Talya Firedancer's Blood Footprints in Snow Country, on Kuwabara no Miko's "Saitoh, Soujiro and Sano" page here:

Hmm, here's another, Paint Me a Picture by Nakki no Miko, which I found on The RCK's fiction page:

Saito/Sano. Gets a bit sappy at the end, but I love the idea of a frustrated Sanosuke starting to paint when he's hiding out, healing from a brawl that went wrong... and I like the author's characterization of Saito.

While you're there, therck's Rheotaxis is an amazing Weiss/Kreuz story, but it's not for the faint-hearted... and it's unfinished.

I love Kenshin, in print and Samurai X. There really doesn't seem to have been a lot of fanfic; at least, not as much as I thought there should be.

Thanks for looking these up -- and the bonus WK rec!

I swear that if you read Vathara's Kenshin/Starwars crossover, you won't regret it. I know it seems insane, but here it is :http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4031223/1/Shadows_in_Starlight.

Good read !

Cholera.

Hello. I just friended you for your yaoi reviews. Don't mind me - I'll just sit at the back here and lurk, if that's ok.
