for those who DON'T make their own spaghetti sauce, what kind do you buy?  i think i'm getting tired of ragu traditional.  i like the more "italian restaurant" kind.

what's your favorite crock pot meal?

I prefer Prego "meat flavored." Then I usually add a packet of dry spaghetti mix along with some water, and extra garlic and oregano.

i swear by Classico, but i dunno if that counts as traditional italian. but it's NUMMY.

crock pot, how do i love thee:

- brisket
- whole "roasted" chicken
- stock from bones of chicken, then remove carcass, add in carrots/celery, noodles in the last few mins
- pot roast

i'm hungry now!

I second classico, I use the sweet basil as pizza sauce or a spaghetti sauce base.

Ha, I am kind of a food snob about pretty much everything except pasta sauce, where I prefer Ragu Traditional. I kill it with tons of fresh garlic, oregano, cayenne, and usually Italian sausage. I like Classico sun dried tomato pesto on occasion.

Right now I have chicken stock going in the crock pot. For Christmas we'll be cooking cornish game hens in the crock pot and finishing them on the grill and we do that with ribs too. Corned beef with guinness is good.

see i like the ragu traditional, i'm just getting sick of it because pasta is cheap and we eat it a lot. i've never added anything to it - maybe that's the change i need.

i just made corned beef the other night, but i've never done it with guinness. must try. how do you do it? just pour the guinness over the meat before you cook it?

We eat a LOT of pasta too. Kroger just had and awesome sale and I think I bought 30 boxes.

The Guinness corned beef I roll in brown sugar and then pour beer on it. If we don't have beer, I've had Coke on it too and it isn't as weird as it sounds. I was anemic when I was pregnant and I ate a ton of corned beef, since it was high in iron and tasty.

Trader Joe's has some really good sauces and the ingredients are all real food - not weird things I can't pronounce. I usually add some spices and/or sausage/meat to them.
