Every time I think I've remembered to pass along every stupid nomenclature quirk about my job onto my trainees, I find another one. And I can't even explain it well to them. "Just... 50 equals 45, shut up and take it." XD

Sorry, I had to rant it out. Gene sequences have their own assigned numerical names, but there's a lot of quirks to the naming system. I have to tell my trainees "That's just how it is" a lot, and as I'm trying to explain why 50 equals 45 for no good reason, I just lost it. XD
