A Roleplay Too Far?

I'm a good roleplayer. Actually I'm an excellent actor. Face it, with a lifetime's experience of either hiding what I was feeling, or projecting something I thought other people wanted to see, its not really shocking, I guess. I never really considered it as a profession, per se, due to the unemployment rate. But acting feeds ( Read more... )

It sounds to me like you need to sit down with your group before the next session and have an OOC discussion to find out where this went wrong for them.

I've got to admit, I balked when I read about the kid "bleeding from all the wrong holes". Has your campaign always been this dark and gritty? If this is a sudden turn, it might have caught them of guard. But what do I know? Ask them.

The 1165 era is dark, like I said. Civilization has collapsed and the party is out to reverse that trend.

I did mention at least once that I remember that this particular episode was going to be very dark, so they did have some warning, but in retrospect, if you've never been through anything like that maybe they didn't know my definition of dark. Heck, maybe I didn't.

And I'm still not sure it went wrong. Dave claimed tiredness, but, obviously, after all this writing, I guess I'm not 100% convinced.

White Wolf, which produces games that can routinely cross a line, pretty much says this in some of their books ( ... )

Maggie here, and for the record, I did almost come out and ask you to stop that particular bit of role playing. That was putting me in a pretty bad place, in part just because that was freakishly well-acted, and in part because I spend a lot of time for job reasons listening to children be traumatized and recount their own abuse. And I wasn't even involved in the game and didn't even know that the set up was that he'd been raped until he bled.

So yeah, not like a huge awful "OH GOD NOW I HATE DOC" thing, but I would appreciate it if maybe you could edge away from that particular territory? Sorry I didn't say anything at the time because for a while I wasn't sure what I was hearing, and then I just felt stupid since it's not my game, but I dunno. At the very least, could I get some kind of "child rape" warning so I can maybe clear out for a bit?
