14. The Goodbye
"Oh, you're here."
Yoochun frowned at his best friend's words. "This is my room isn't it?" he said and laid his bag down on his bed. He kicked his shoes off before sitting down.
"What happened with Changmin and Yunho the other day?" Jaejoong asked. He was clearly trying to keep the conversation going. Yoochun sighed. "A lot," he said, followed by a detailed explanation of everything he knew. When he was done it felt like they had never even had that fight.
"Poor guy. What does his dad do again?"
"Junsu said he was a judge."
"Oh the irony."
"You know..." Yoochun started. He stood up from his own bed and sat next to his friend. "If Changmin gets transferred, I'm pretty sure Yunho is transferring too."
"Good for them," Jaejoong shrugged. "There's nothing I can do about it."
"That's true. It got me thinking, you know? Would I transfer schools for Junsu if we were in their situation?"
A frown appeared on his friend's face. "Well?"
"I don't think I would," Yoochun admitted. "We haven't been together for that long and I can't just leave everything behind for him. I couldn't leave you behind for him."
"That's cute," Jaejoong said.
"Shut up."
"No, I'm serious. And I'm not asking you to choose between me or him, obviously, but you understand that I can't be his best friend just because you're fucking him right?"
"Fine. But you don't need to be an asshole about it either, okay?"
"That's just who I am."
Yoochun was about to get up when he remembered something. "What's the deal with you and Taegoon?"
He shrugged.
"More than friends?" Yoochun asked.
"I don't know yet," Jaejoong said. "I like him. I do, but..."
"I am frowning upon this, just so you know," Yoochun said.
"He was heartbroken when Junsu left him for you, you know. We talked about it this weekend and he kept talking about the necklace he gave him and how he was hurt that Junsu never wore it. He thinks-"
"How is Junsu supposed to wear the necklace when he gave it back months ago?" Yoochun frowned. "What is he talking about?"
"Taegoon said he convinced Junsu to keep it," Jaejoong blinked. "Maybe he threw it away."
He doubted it. If he had eventually thrown it away he would have said something about it.
Yoochun decided on not saying anything about it the next morning or the next few days even.
Things were uncomfortable that much was clear. And when Junsu wanted to talk about it right before the weekend, Yoochun gave in. They sat in the studyhall, about an hour before their drivers were supposed to arrive.
"I know this may be hard, Yoochun, but it's pretty clear Yunho and I don't have anything going on. It was a long time ago-"
"What are you talking about?" Yoochun asked a bit confused.
"You're being weird because Yunho and I share one room now," Junsu blinked. "Right?"
"What? Why would I-oh," and that's when he remembered. He remembered that Junsu had lost his virginity to Yunho. He hadn't even thought of that, but he sure was thinking about it now.
"That's not the issue," Yoochun shook his head.
"Then what is?" Junsu asked. "Why have you been so quiet lately?"
"Why did you say you gave the necklace back when you eventually kept it?" Yoochun asked bluntly.
Junsu stared at him, clearly taken aback, shocked. It was true.
"I...he didn't want to take it back, Yoochun and I knew you'd me mad if I told you-"
"So you decided to just lie? Junsu, how is that okay?"
"It's not okay, but you wouldn't understand. Yoochun, I was with him for two years and you expect me to just erase him out of my life, just like that? it's not that easy..."
"So is it easier to just lie to me?" Yoochun asked. He was getting mad again. It had been a while since they had a serious fight like this and he hated it. Why couldn't they just be okay?
"You're putting words in my mouth. I understand thast you're mad, but do you understand why I did it?"
That was the question. Yoochun looked at him, he thought of those times he had seen Junsu and Taegoon together, how long it had taken for them to finally break up, and how painful the whole ordeal was.
"Yeah, I understand," he said. "Still, you should have been honest from the start."
"I'm sorry," Junsu said. "Really, Yoochun, I am."
"Okay."
"Apology accepted or...?"
"Yeah, fine, apology accepted," Yoochun said and rolled his eyes.
"So how did you find out about it anyway?"
"Jae and your ex are buddies," Yoochun sighed. "It came up."
"That's messed up. Are they...you know?"
"Why," Yoochun frowned, "would you mind?"
"No, but it would be weird," Junsu said. "You know I can't stand him and he's clearly not to fond of me and you and Taegoon are practically enemies. How does that work?"
"I don't know. We don't have to think about that now, Jaejoong has other things on his mind."
"Okay....I guess."
The study hall had gotten quiet around them, they were two of few people still in the school.
"My place tomorrow night?" Junsu asked after a moment of silence.
To their great frustration Junsu's parents had decided to go to bed early that Saturday night. The result being that Yoochun was too freaked out to do anything more than kiss in Junsu's room since the parents were only about ten feet away, in their own room.
"Come on," Junsu whispered, tugging on Yoochun's shirt. "They won't come in here, why would they?"
"They could hear something," Yoochun whispered back. "I can't do this. I don't think I can even get it up with them in the next room."
"You can get a boner in the middle of a math class, Yoochun, and now all of a sudden you can't get it up? I promise they won't come in."
"Does your door have a lock?"
"No, but-"
Junsu was cut off by his ringing phone.
He snatched it out from under a pillow and as he read the name on the screen he frowned. "It's Yunho," he said. "I wonder what's wrong."
"Answer it," Yoochun said.
About ten minutes later they were standing in Changmin's backyard.
Yunho was leaning against the back of the house, right under a large window.
It was dark except for the street lights and Yoochun had to squint to see Yunho hold a finger up to his lips.
When they reached him, Yunho was smiling.
"What are you doing here?" Junsu whispered.
"My parents went out," came the answer from above their heads. They looked up and saw Changmin looking down on them from the window. "Hello."
"Hey," Yoochun said.
"Listen," Yunho started. "Thankfully, they decided to just put him in the private school in the neighbourhood. We're starting Monday."
"We?" Junsu asked.
"Yeah, we," Yunho said. "I know you'll miss us. And you'll miss copying our homework, but it's about time you open up a book for yourself."
"Wrap it up, guys," Changmin hissed. "They can be home any minute now."
"Basically this is good bye," Yunho said. "We'll try to meet up in the weekends, okay?"
''This is so weird,” Junsu said. ''But okay, I guess.'' They hugged and Changmin waved at them.
''Wait, Junsu I have something for you,'' Changmin said and disappeared into the house. He came back a second later with a notebook. He threw it down and Yunho caught it.
''I told you not to do this, Changmin,'' Yunho said, sounding annoyed as he handed Junsu the notebook.
''It's the math homework for the rest of the year. I was bored this week,'' Changmin explained. ''Good luck.'' ''I think I love you,'' Junsu said. ''I think I love you a lot.''
