"You do not deserve to be his Queen," Morgana bites out, viciously.

"I would watch what you are saying," Gwen says, mildly. "After all, no amount of magic will help you escape those chains. They've been made specifically for you."

"You undeserving little bitch! How dare you be his Queen!" Morgana shouts out at her. Something about the way she says it makes Gwen realise something.

"I'm not. Not really. Yes, I hold the title. The people adore me. And one day, I shall bear his children, so that his line will continue," Gwen says, softly. "But I do not have his heart, nor does he have mine. We love each other dearly, of course, but it is not the kind of love that comes from legends."

"Why are you telling me this?" Morgana asks, and the fight seems to have gone out of her.

"Because, had things have been different, I would have happily been your Queen. Would still, if you would just change," Gwen says, keeping her tone soft, but not reaching out to touch her, not yet. There might yet be a chance to bring Morgana back to them, to rid her of the notions Morgause set sailing through her head, and if there is a chance that she could have her lady back, then Gwen will take it. "Arthur knows it. The Knights know it. The only person who truly seems to not know it is you, Morgana. I was yours then as I am yours now. But I will not be with someone whose only aim in life is destruction, I can't."

"That's not what I wanted," Morgana whispers, sounding so close to having given up on everything that Gwen can't stop herself, reaches out and touches her cheek. "It's not what I want. I just want what's mine, for magic to be allowed again. He's a tyrant, Gwen, just like Uther. I want the recognition that I am Uther's child, I want to be able to love you without hiding, and I want Arthur to stop killing innocent people just because of magic. It's barbaric, Gwen. Magic isn't evil. Only people are. And he can't see it. He's been poisoned by Uther for too long."

"Arthur is in love with a sorcerer, Morgana," Gwen says, not really knowing why she trusted her with this, but knowing her instincts well enough to accept them. "He has been since before Uther passed. He knows it is the person who commits the evil, not the magic. But you have to see it from his perspective. If he legalises magic, Camelot will be in chaos. We have no way of regulating it, or of tracking it, or anything. So if he brings it back, Arthur's going to do it slowly. His lover... his lover wants to start training those who have the potential to properly regulate it. Helga and Godric are sort of... well, Arthur trusts his lover, and that's the most important. What else is important is... do you trust me when I tell you that, were you change your ways, you would be welcome back to Camelot? Do you trust me enough to change, and to return?"

Morgana was silent for a long time, and suddenly the restraints that Merlin had promised were completely magic proof disappeared. Morgana was on her, holding her - kissing her, like nothing that Gwen had ever felt, like everything she'd always wanted.

"I trust you, my Queen."
