The Imitation Game

...has a great many virtues (I'm not even a Sherlock fan and I thought Cumberbatch was phenomenal, as well as Knightley, Goode, and really the entire cast), but I thought I should mention that excerpts from the King's speech -- the real one -- can be heard during the opening minutes of the movie. *mwah* Merry Christmas!

It would make an excellent double feature! Or part of an all-day marathon including Conspiracy, which I just watched the other night for the first time -- wasn't sure I wanted to see Branagh, Firth, and Tucci orchestrate the Final Solution, but the cast (which also includes McNeice, Coyle, a very young Hiddleston, and a chunk of the cast of Master and Commander) was ultimately too tempting to pass up.

I have loved most of Desplat's scores -- I think Morricone's for The Mission is my all-time favorite but Desplat must be rivaling Williams in number and his range is bigger than Shore's.
