I liked this very much. A really interesting concept to explore.

You've imbued each moment with uch depth and grace. Lovely.

Thanks so much! I've been reading Edward's letters to Wallis, which was what put it in my head. (Bertie's letters to Elizabeth and vice versa, which are in the QM's bio, are so much more genteel and restrained -- they do call each other "darling" on occasion but after they get engaged she has to reassure him that she actually does love him and she thinks she will grow to love him more, which did not strike me as anywhere near as satisfying as a giddy fiancee declaring that she can't imagine life without him.)

This is lovely and rings very true, imo, what with Bertie longing for affection and yet unable to express it. I can imagine him envying David for his lack of propriety, too. Wonderful!

Thank you! I've been reading Edward's letters to Wallis, which are utterly insane -- he sounds like a frantic ten-year-old, and she sounds like she'd really prefer to stay with her husband while enjoying the king's money -- and they made me wonder whether Bertie ever came across Edward's brand of obsessive love.

In my head he totally did, for which I'm blaming you and Dementordelta's fic. ;-)
