Oh, wow. The first one packs such an emotional punch -- Bertie schooling his features into indifference, as if he'd been hoping for a different response, though he should have known better. Ouch. And the last line is so beautiful, both because of Lionel's protectiveness and the way Elizabeth recognises and values it. Lovely!

The second and third ones are wonderful, too. Your Elizabeth voice is a delight, both perceptive and humourous. Thank you so much for writing these! <3

Thank you! I was thinking about that scene at the end of the movie where Mary is listening to Bertie speak, looking proud, and thinking, I bet she will never tell him so, because that would mean acknowledging that he had a problem in the first place.

I really love Elizabeth -- I read an interview in which Lionel's grandkids said they didn't think the Queen Mum liked to talk about Lionel because she wanted to take all the credit for curing Bertie herself, but Lionel's diaries are full of instances of her being friendly to him, calling Bertie by his first name when talking to Lionel, etc.

*applauds* Wonderful little character snippets, all of them!

(Might be able to tag back tonight, SO has to stay on campus late for graduation ceremonies so I might have time to get online. If I don't decide to watch some movie that he hates while he's away!)

Thank you! Elizabeth is apparently annoyed I haven't written her in a couple of weeks. ;)

(I am out to dinner then watching 'Smallville' but we need to finish that sucker soon -- I saw Geoffrey Rush on the Late Late Show promoting POTC4!)

That last line of the first one really warms my heart. That image is so apt.

I really do love your Elizabeth!voice. Always astute without being obvious about it.

Thank you -- I wanted to write something where his mother was proud of Bertie and then I realized that she would probably never show it when she was. And Lionel would find that unforgivable.

I feel like I've been neglecting poor Elizabeth, and she is such a wonderful character. :)

Thank you! Elizabeth prefers to leave things unsaid for decorum's sake, unlike some people. ;)
