What exactly am I driving?

So I have a leak in one of the systems of my car. It's a pretty solid leak, but not at a crucial location. So I called up my dad and asked him what I should do. He told me that part of the system wasn't important. There have been other instances where I have been told of parts of a car that aren't really necessary. You don't need a heater coil
