she follows once he resumes walking, frowning a little in sadness and concern. ] Well.... maybe someday, the Shadow Blot can be beaten. You never know what might come along... [ sort of wistfully. maybe Oswald can find a Sora for his world, too -- someone who can fix everything. ]

Yeah... Yeah, maybe. I hope so. [Now that he's in Luceti, he doesn't have to worry about that too much anymore, but what if he's sent back to Wasteland again? He'll need to be prepared.]

So what about your world? You got any nice views?

Well ... not really. [ thoughtful face. ] I never thought my world was that strange until I came here, but pretty much everyone seems to think it was kind of depressing. I mean, it was dark all the time, and there was no sun... and it was pretty small, I guess. Compared to other worlds. Just a big, empty city and a Castle. [ small, slightly awkward smile. ] It's not that interesting...

[He takes his eyes off the road for a second to look up at her, frowning.] So did you ever see other worlds? Aside from this one, I mean.

Oh, yeah! [ fff subject change thank goodness-- ] A bunch of them! It was my job, back home, to travel to different worlds... we had to fight these monsters called Heartless. But I got to see all sorts of different places!

[ ... gosh. That's the first time in a while anyone's been brought up short when she's said that... she's gotten quite used to people just sorta rolling with it. ]

Yeah... like I said, they're monsters that eat people's hearts. I had to fight them and set all those hearts free again. You could find them everywhere... across all the worlds. So it was kind of a big job, sometimes.

There're monsters that eat hearts? [It's not really surprising, he's seen the Shadow Blot absorb Mickey's heart, after all. It's just a little horrifying to him, considering how precious hearts are.]

So what happened to the hearts after you freed 'm? Did they go back to their owners?

No... they go someplace else entirely. [ small frown. that never really had ... sat right with her. especially not towards the end... considering Xemnas. ] To Kingdom Hearts. It's a huge collection of hearts that sits in the sky... it looks like a moon, but it's heart-shaped.

... I don't know what happens to them there, though... I always thought, maybe, if you freed them from there, you could send them back to be with who they belonged... [ maybe. it's a nice wish. but she's not even entirely sure if that's possible. ]

Hearts that weren't... well, they'd stay with the people they belonged to, wouldn't they? [ headtilt, not sure she gets the question. ]

Well, I mean... Say you lost your heart 'cause of some other reason. Then would they go there too?

for a moment, she looks thoughtful. some other reason... what other way can you lose your heart? has she ever heard of such a thing? think, think...

then, abruptly, she stops walking, brow furrowing and a hand going to her temple in a quiet but obvious wince. ah ah ah, xion. that's what you get for reaching for memories that aren't yours.

she didn't even get the full memory. just a very vague, confused impression of a boy and a castle, a sacrifice, and a long-hidden heart. it makes very little sense to her. finally, after a silence ]

[He just watches while Xion thinks (and apparently suffers from a small migraine). When she finally speaks, he frowns heavily, crossing his arms.]

Hearts have to go somewhere. Who knows? This Kingdom Hearts thing could be the vault for every missin' heart. If I could just... Hm...
