[After spending most of the day trying to grain his bearings, Canute finally manages to turn on this awkward stone-like device. He has no idea that his voice is being recorded, but the strange device was now glowing.]

I-Is this sorcery? [He silences himself briefly, still fumbling with the object.] What is this? I never seen anything like before ( Read more... )

It would seem to me that you are new to this world as well. I am only just arrived myself, but if you wish I could tell you what I have learned of this place.

As for the device, it may perhaps be run by magic, but it would seem to be a common item here, used for communication. The creature following you is likely your pokemon. It is yours to keep and take care of, and in turn, your pokemon is to protect you in this world.

W-what!?

[A loud thump could be heard since the prince accidentally dropped the odd stone. It crashed against the ground loudly, nearly muting everything that Canute said next.]

It talked...? The rock talked?

[Scooping up the communicator once more, Canute hesitantly spoke into it.]

A pokemon? Are you speaking about this dog that keeps following me? Mhm...

[He was now eying the creature with scrutiny since it was gazing at him expectantly.]

So it's mine....

[Oh, he startled him. It looked like this person was even less familiar with technology than the Warrior was- at least he had heard stories from his comrades about the devices on their worlds.]

No speaking rock- my voice simply came through it. You are in New Bark Town, correct? If you would prefer it, we could meet and speak face to face, instead of using these devices.

I suppose I must be, though I cannot be sure. I am only learning this myself.

[Still trying to comprehend how this magical device works, Canute envisioned a tiny human living within this stone-like object when the other spoke of meeting him.]

You are a mortal are you not? I've paid little heed to the old fables that speak of Valhalla and its' gods, but not even Odin himself could construct such a device.

New Bark Town? Oh, yes! I am here.

[Canute hesitated to say anything, especially since the speaker seems less than friendly.]

H-hello? Do...do I know you?

[He sighs.]

A talking stone would be left better within fables.

Doubtful.

[the grumble and growliness of his voice barely changes.

This isn't a stone. And you're not the only one stuck here.

Is that so? Then what is this 'thing' called?

[Canute paused briefly.]

You must be one of Thorkell's men...

[He figured that with a voice like that, this man had to be one of Thorkell the Tall's warriors. The man sounds just as fierce as the legend himself.]

If so, I demand to speak with your leader now!

...I don't think so.

[Making it very vague she's familiar with magic at all.]

But it doesn't make sense either. If it's not "sorcery", as you called it, then I don't know what else it could be.

Then what is this device for, and how did I come to claim it?

[He's getting a tad used to talking with people on the pokegear, but it's still rather weird in his opinion.]

It seems like it's for ease of communication and keeping track of... things. I've never seen it before either, but I have one too. It reminds me of a cell phone with some really strange features, but not quite.

[Completely oblivious to the fact that this guy's from a thousand years in the past. Hey, if they can practice magic in the 21st century...]
