So this is Chirstmas

I'm sitting in the living room of my Mom's house while my sister plays "Bolt" on my Mom's iPhone, her husband Scott puts together a White Christmas jigsaw puzzle, her son puts together LEGOs, Michael reads coursework material for his Accounting test (ethics), Josh plays video games, and Mom does stuff in the kitchen that only Moms seem to know how ( Read more... )

christmas, awesome, family

Happy Holidays.

Oh, yeah, I think today I'm supposed to go out for Chinese food.

Last night there were a bunch of us ummm ... chatting on ICUII.

A little actual chatting revealed most of us were at least 1/2 (one parent) Jewish. Then someone (OK, me) said, "Can we ditch Chinese and make this the new tradition?"

But, then we'd all still be hungry.

I had: cold sesame noodles, steamed chicken dumplings, and some Thai-style chicken and vegetable dish with red curry and coconut milk sauce.

Oh man, I actually have tears in my eyes just thinking about today. I got home and realized this was my first christmas without the whole family. It just dawned on me that I really missed it. Plus I just downloaded the Charlie Brown Christmas Album with my itunes gift card. I didn't not know you could sing. My parents are both (were) music teachers, now retired. I grew up singing baritone or bass, sometimes tenor in high school, church, and with family. One of my aunts is a music teacher, but on my mom's side, all four sisters know how to read music. Thus, I was taught to read too...last year I remember singing O Holy Night with my mom, dad, sister, aunts, and a few cousins...that didn't happen this year. I'm glad you were able to. It really just does ring in that christmas spirit.

At least I didn't have to worry about singing hymns I didn't really know, I suck at sightreading.

yeah, my Mom and Dad both sing pretty well and I've been singing since I was a kid. I don't do it much these days but singing bass with my Grandfather is one of those things in life I truly treasure. Each year with him at the Holidays is a true gift.

I'm good at sightreading by I have a limited vocal range - wish I could hit the higher notes!
