Me and God

Mar 10, 2008 13:14

John was kind enough to give me his copy of "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins when he was visiting a few months ago.  I was just able to get started on it last week after finishing "The Golden Compass".  I have to say, I'm enjoying the read.  It's a slow go with me as I'm really trying to take the time to focus in on the material.  It's been so ( Read more... )

I'm your strong theist. :)

But it is all in my interpretation of "God". I prefer to call it "Reality" or "The Universe". It's in everything I can see and everything I refuse to see. It's in your post. It's in the phone call I just received. It speaks to me. It says "I am". It is silent. It is you. It is me. It's my little 4 pound dog -- it's the pee he leaves on my kitchen floor. It is good and evil (which are just thoughts we have labeled as "good" and "evil").

For me the concept of "God" has nothing to do with religion at all. Belief is not a prerequisite.

I think that's a pretty awesome mindset to be in and I know I've had moments where I feel that way too.

OK, read that and I'll led you my copy of the play "Letting Go of God" by Julia Sweeney (it's PAT!) It's an audio recording of her one-woman play and it's pretty awesome. I think you'll dig it.
