It's Movie Time!

Nov 07, 2007 15:42

Netflix's recomendation engine is pretty much the suck.  Their site/service is fine - no complaints at all along those lines.  They deliver movies quickly which is nice.  They just never recommend to me anything I'd be all that interested in (and yes, I've reviewed over 1,300 movies on there so it's not my lack of input).

Anyhow, give me a list of 5 ( Read more... )

being bored, netflix, movies

I did not know that but I'm glad they're aware of it not being a great engine. Points to them for inviting the public to help them out too.

Pan's - Loved it! I actually got to see it at the Arclight which was a real treat.

Volver - Added!

The Fountain - Watched that with none other than rrumm and enjoyed it quite a bit.

City of Lost Children - Added and moved to the 7 spot in my queue. It looks really good (and was #1 on the San Diego list of rentals FYI)

Thanks buddy!

1) Added - looks like fun!
2) Added
3) Added (with reservations - I get uptight watching stuff like this)
4) Think I'm gonna skip this one, but thank you
5) Funny, I added this about 5 minutes before reading your comment. It's been on my to-watch list for a while now.

Amelie is one of my all-time favorite films. Strangely enough, it's my default feeling-blue movie. I watch it whenever I'm feeling down. Strange, because it's not a wallow-y movie at all...it's pretty cheerful.

OMG.....just thinking about this movie again. SO GOOD. I'm sorry I won't be there to watch it with you. I love sharing this movie with friends.

I tried to watch Rabbit PF but just could not connect with it for some reason.

Black Christmas (no no... we can watch that together sometime) :)

Black Snake Moan... hmm, ok - only if you say so because it didn't look all that great to me when I saw the trailer.

Afro Samurai - for shizzle... been watching this a bit on Cartoon Network

Igby Goes Down - fucking love this film. It captures so much of the New York I love to visit.

You probably didn't connect with it because it's a gigantic piece of crap fueled by whiny PC-ness, '90s style. :)

Away from Her - Thank you for reminding me of this film. I'm a big Sarah Polley fan. Look forward to seeing her directorial debut.
C SofA - Looks worth checking out
Dr. Who - I tried to watch some of this on Sci-Fi and I hate to say it, but I just don't think I'll have be a fan of the Doctor(s)
O's 13 - Hehe, not if taped my eyeballs open would I watch this on purpose.

Away From Her was gut wrenching, but so good.

Kamikaze Girls came as a surprise recommendation from a friend...closest way I can describe it is if Tarantino made a live action anime in japanese. So good.

My 5 would probably be The Limey, Cobra Verde, Fox And His Friends, The Fourth Man, and House of Games.

The Limey - been on my to-watch list for a long time. thanks for the reminder

Cobra - sounds like a nice mind fuck - I'd expect no less from you

Fox - Intriguing...

The Fourth - hmm, think I'm gonna pass on this one

House of Games - I'll give this one a shot even though I am sooo not a Joe Mantegna fan

Yeah, I'd pass on The Fourth Man too. But Spetters is awesome. They're both early Paul Verhoeven movies, long before Showgirls and Starship Troopers...

The Fourth Man is certainly not a good movie. But it's fascinating in its pathology.
