Well moomba's are canonical critters in Final Fantasy 8 which the most intelligent species of the planet was doomed to de-evolve into.
They are just small, bipedal lion-like critters which can roar loud and be oddly clever at times (and only come in redish/orangy/yellow colours).
They occasionally pop up in other games (if I remember correctly) but generally don't have much background other than being small and very loud.

Moomba's don't deserve sues.
