On Sunday, October 8, 1871, fire leveled a broad swath of Michigan and Wisconsin, including the cities of Peshtigo, Holland, Manistee, and Port Huron.  That same night, the Great Chicago Fire erupted in nearby Illinois.  Conditions were ripe for major conflagrations that year. wow! that's a lot of land that was burned.....

i wonder why no one ever talks about that fire.

No one really remembers anything else other than Chicago because other areas that burned were mostly uninhabited land. Chicago was a big city and it was a big financial loss for many. I hope people realize there were entire towns and townspeople that were burned into charcoal.
