I have that problem sometimes, too. Delayed stupid alarm in my head, I think. You know that what you're doing is stupid, but don't realize it until you're already doing it. Glad it was a sharp knife, and didn't go any deeper. If you do any more damage later, I know an absolutely brilliant hand surgeon. Keep it clean, and I hope it heals quickly.
