Those boxes don't normally do that, right? I mean...making all those noises, and talking about those strange things? Could someone please tell me what was going on?

[Pause] There are flags everywhere, and everyone seems to be setting up. Is something happening?

mayfield is creepy, 4th of july

They do things like that when there is a bad signal. We could expect that somebody either in the city, or previously in the city had temporarily gained control of the station and broke something in the struggle.

As for the flags, it's America and Meriken's birthday; if you know either of them, that is.

That means someone's trying to get some warning or information out to us, right? I hope they find something... ["They" of course referring to the actual people here, and not the drones]

I'm afraid I don't know either of them. This place is going out of its way just to celebrate birthdays?

As do we all.

Ah, you could think of it like that, I suppose. Mayfield is an American town, as such would traditionally celebrate today. It's a dull holiday, really.

It is America's birthday.

Why would the whole town go out of their way to celebrate a birthday?

Because we live in it, and America is patriotic. Very much so.

Ah, I see.... [She hesitates, her voice dropping some]

How are you feeling...?

I'm not entirely certain, either, to be honest, but that "box" was a television.

...And today is a holiday, from what I remember being told.

A...television? [At least she has a name for it now]

It seems like an exciting one--people are really getting ready for it. Will you be celebrating too?

Yes, a television. ...I'm more familiar with radios, myself, though.

Hm...it's not a holiday back in Filgaia, but I believe I was asked to attend a party, so I suppose I may.

I'm afraid I don't know what a 'radio' is either.

I've been invited to join some people in celebrating as well. [She pauses for a second or two, before deciding to introduce herself] I'm the Childlike Empress.

What are they celebrating?

A time when the colony of another country decided to make war on their kingdom, or something like that.
