I'm quickly dashing in to say hello--my internet's out again and I'm using a free 1-hour trial from a wifi service.

1) Reading

As I mentioned, I bought myself Melissa Scott's Fairs' Point and Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold's Death at the Dionysus Club as a Christmas present. I've already talked about how much I enjoyed Fairs' Point. I also liked ( Read more... )

I liked The Imitation Game, but don't know enough about Turing and Enigma to tell how much was fictionalised. I wouldn't necessarily agree it plays down his gayness, though -- he states more than once that he's "a homosexual", and it's clear he proposes to Joan Clarke for pragmatic reasons; there's also screentime devoted to his schooldays and his childhood friend/first love, Christopher. It's true we don't get to see any of his actual relationships, though.

Oh that illustration is *glorious*. All things should be illustrated in the style of early 20th century magazines. I see from the mirror DW post that the story has been tracked down and is not all one might hope, but I definitely think someone should the story it *should* be! (I cannot believe chap in the bed with the sketching materials isn't drawing bending!chap's bottom...)

Mmmmmm, ham *salivates* I've been working through the Christmas cheese supply. I'm a deadly garlic-breathed weapon at ten paces, but I'm a happy one *g*

I send more encouraging vibes to your internet *sends*. And I really must get on with Melissa Scott's stuff...

I really liked The Imitation Game, much more than I thought I would. I'd say see it in theaters if you can, though it's not necessarily something that needs a giant screen to enjoy like some blockbuster. I just wanted to support it.
