I do love that Snoopy/Red Baron was your ship! I totally see how that could happen, but there's something particularly awesome about a ship in which one of the characters never appears in canon, plus I think being interested in what is, essentially, WW1 fandom at an early age shows excellent taste! *g*

I think there is a huge appeal in subtext as opposed to text - it's the 'show not tell' principle, I suppose. I agree that currently, shows with canon textual queerness are generally less likely to be interesting than queer subtext ones. But that makes sense because, as you say, queer inclusion is very heavily towards the genres I'm never likely to want to watch. When and if someone produces a high-budget 'together they fight crime!' series where the two same-gender leads have to learn to work together and get closer and THEN finally kiss and go off into the sunset at the end of series 7, or whatever, I imagine I'll enjoy that just fine.
