I liked it more than the previous two as well - when I saw Mark Gattiss' name coming up in the opening credits my hopes were raised *g* It was a fairly classic episode, I agree, and I liked that not *all* the Sherwood forest set-up was a robot fake. Robin also seemed fairly determined to flirt with the Doctor (at least until they started arguing although, hey, pigtail-pulling...) which I appreciated. I still don't love Clara, but at least she's getting some definitive competency ('I teach year seven taekwondo!'). And the 'shooting the bow and arrow as a team' scene was fun whilst making a point.

Did you get the trailer for next week? Looks darker, which often means a good show. I hope so.

I found a rather good article in the New Statesman light-heartedly trailing the new Who, but making some good points about Moffat and Davies, I felt. I was pleased to see such points raised in mainstream media: Reply

Yeah, I thought that wink when Robin first spoke to him was kinda . . . subtexty. I was hoping for some follow-through on that, but alas, no.

I did see the trailer. It looks like a good scary episode.

Thanks for the link to the discussion. It's good to see it in the mainstream media, but a bit weird too, because this is the stuff fandom's been talking about for years and then it's presented in the mainstream as though nobody ever thought of it before. They do raise a lot of good points though.

That New Statesman article did make me think again about how epic 'The Doctor Dances' and all that came with it was, and how sad it is that essentially we've regressed since then in terms of front-and-centre queer representation in Dr Who. Shakespeare flirted explicitly with Ten that time, of course. But with Robin Hood in this one we were left with subtext and suggestion and 'if you already see it then maybe it's there but we won't say anything'...
