Mary was surprisingly good and likeable. Decent female character FTW! And I agree with the love of the Mycroft moments.
The shying-away from John/Sherlock moments was interesting. I wonder if they're building up to it, or couldn't figure out how to do it? Or were worried about making them slashier? *sad weary cynical sigh*
I llike your Mary theory of deducing the patients. Now *that* would be cool as opposed to gratuitous, which was how I read it - if that was their intention I wish they'd made it clearer.
Really hope Molly's arc goes somewhere good. I don't want her to be the one everyone's just sorry for...
That is my fear. Sad cynical weary sighs all around. And, even though I was entertained by the "Sherlock and Moriarty kiss" bit, the way it's explicitly presented as a ridiculous fantasy--one even Anderson considers ridiculous!--bothered me. I really wish shows would just go back to pretending fandom and slash don't exist, if that's how they're going to "acknowledge" it.
