I really liked this. I loved the commentary on the way even rigorously researched portrayals are removed from the real thing, and the way we use real deaths as entertainment. And Jamie's reaction is spot-on, especially noticing the little details first.
I think I'm probably doing the film an injustice, in the sense that it was created in part as a critique of imperialism and an indirect response to the Vietnam War. But no historical re-enactment is ever going to be anything but disturbing for someone who was actually there.
There's surprisingly little Jamie fic that deal with what Culloden and the defeat of the Stuart cause would mean to him. I can't imagine it didn't occupy his mind at times.
