some meme with that whine

I've got a bad case of the Small Fandom Sulks at the moment--I'm feeling hard done by because there's so little good fic for my favorite fandoms, or if there is, there's little for the pairings I prefer. Discworld is my new love, and there's hardly any Discworld fic on LJ at all. There's a lot at fanfiction.net, but, well, ff.net. (Plus, WTF is up ( Read more... )

I keep trying to get into Merlin fic, but apart from the occasional bit of Gwen/Morgana or Gwen & Morgana, I find the same thing as you do! Okay, so I'll give you a character: Uther.

Inspired by your small fandom rant, I name Philip Eslingen, if you're up for it. I am really curious who he *hasn't* had sex with, because, geez, come on.

Well, if you're going to do Philip, you should do Nicolas as well ;)

Plus, WTF is up with all the Teatime pairing fics? Sadistic, sociopathic killer = DO NOT WANT LOVE STORIES ABOUT HIM.

I sympathize. And in my case, I would not even call the actor cute, but maybe that's just because all I see when I look at him is EYEBROWS.

Also, hi!

Hi there! Yeah, I find the Sylar love inexplicable too.

Are you about to go to bed? If not, I'll sign on to AIM. And if so, we should make plans to chat one of these days.

Sorry, I was watching something and now I am off to bed, but we should chat. Saturday, maybe? Any chance you could be around maybe 10 or 11-ish my time? I'm usually online then because I have a friend in England I chat with.

I'll try to be around Saturday. I know that you're often around at that time, but I tend to remember that fact at around 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon.

Teatime, ish. I saw Hogfather, but I can't remember what he looked like.

My fannish life would be easier if I could learn to be interested in Supernatural or Stargate.

Oh, me too! Chuck isn't exactly bursting with good fic, either. On the upside, at least I don't mind reading Merlin, I'm good with the Fluffy Destined Love, and I'll bet there's a metric boatload of *that*.

I'm also hoping that NCIS: LA is going to be the Next Big Thing, or at least a Next Medium-sized Thing, and I'll be all over the fic for that. :)

I just looked it up on IMDB, and Teatime was played by Marc Warren, who's nice looking but nothing extraordinary, in my opinion. Was Teatime made less scary and evil for the Hogfather movie (maybe because they figured a lot of kids would watch)? Eh, I still find the Teatime love creepy.

Loving a small fandom can be frustrating. Especially when you know the show's better than, say, Supernatural but people still don't watch it. But what people will like and/or respond to fannishly is such a complicated issue.

Marc Warren is one of the more annoying actors--it's something about his face, sorry--which probably makes him a good choice for Teatime. He was in 'Hustle' and I was glad when he left; mind you, his character was meant to be annoying.

He played a one-off character on Doctor Who that I really liked, but that's about all I know of his work.

Regarding Discword, I know there's some stuff at Yuletide that's generally good, though you've maybe found that already. And besides the main Discworld comm there's also cheesemongers, which is Monstrous Regiment-centric and fairly active. (Though I'm not sure of your opinion on MR. It's one of my favorites, but I know it's not for everyone.)

Also, I am disturbed by the Teatime fangirls. Ooof.

(As for the meme, how about Jamie?)

I always check Yuletide when I get into a new small fandom, because the best fic's usually there. Hopefully this year's will produce some more.

I wasn't crazy about MR on first read, but I need to re-read. Unfortunately, I'm not all that into f/f slash, which I'm sure is what most MR fics are.

Jamie, yay! I'll put the meme responses in a new post.
