Very grim, but even in that lack of hope, there is at least connection.

Scott's so isolated at the beginning of X3; I do like the thought of him being able to talk to someone.

Wow. Very beautiful. I love the idea of "To Erik, they brought the griefs hope wouldn't touch.", and the "Erik has seen starving men bleed from the eyes" had me from the beginning.

Thank you! Erik knows all about unbearable loss, I think.

I think this is absolutely wonderful. The rhythm of the prose is so controlled -- I especially love these two sentences:

To Erik, they brought the griefs hope wouldn't touch.

He holds Scott in his arms, wishing he could weep, to teach Scott how.

Beautiful. The prose here is so deceptively simple, and I hadn't really thought before that Scott might come to Erik after Jean died - reading this, it seems like the only thing he could do.

Thank you! I'm fascinated by the idea of Charles, Erik, Scott, and Jean as a constructed family, and it leads to some interesting questions about how Scott and Jean felt about Erik after he left the school and started up the Brotherhood.
