I'm watching the reconstruction of "Evil of the Daleks" and I'm very distressed that the Doctor and Jamie have quarrelled twice now. Jamie's even said that he and the Doctor are through! And he said "don't touch me," which is terribly upsetting but also makes me wish there was a visual so I could see the Doctor trying to give Jamie a soothing ( Read more... )

Ahahaha, Evil of the Daleks is my very favorite serial because of those quarrels, though. It definitely adds to some of their dynamic, and you may hate it less once you "see" the rest of the serial. Me, I just love the "We're through" line as to mean they were you know, together in the first place. Any good couple needs to have their fights and this is their big one and they weather it in the end and come out stronger for it. :D

I wouldn't say they have a row when Victoria leaves, just that they're both upset about her going and Jamie has no outlet for it.

The fight is written very personally--Jamie could've said "I'm done traveling with you," or "I want to go home," or something, but instead it's "you and me, we're through." Suggesting, yes, that the relationship between the two of them is very important to them both. It does raise the emotional stakes a lot, continuing on from the end of "The Faceless Ones" when Jamie reassures Ben and Polly that he'll take good care of the Doctor. From that point on it's the-Doctor-and-Jamie (plus one) rather than the Doctor and companions, one of whom is Jamie. If that makes any sense at all.

I just wish the Doctor and Jamie could've had some adventures as a twosome rather than immediately picking up Victoria.

I understand how you feel, and I'd like even just one adventure between Ben and Polly and Victoria, but they spend most of it alone together, and I like Victoria so much I can't really complain.

Well, it's great in the sense that it confirms the Doctor and Jamie as a pair. I just don't want them to fight, I want them to cuddle!
