Tragically, I am no longer in sunny Los Angeles, although I am in also-sunny Albuquerque, whence I will return home to cold, cold Minnesota on Tuesday. I have learned that LA is (a) larger than I expected, (b) hillier than I expected, and (c) a far, far longer drive from Albuquerque than I expected. And I now understand the meaning of the lines ( Read more... )

Hey, you're practically in my back yard! Well, 80 miles out, anyway. *waves northward at you*

Occupational therapy! Sockupational therapy?

I think Heath Ledger died before last year's Oscars, and was thus in last year's tribute. Not that I've seen this year's!

Ah, I see. I guess his having won an award this year made his death seem more recent than it was.

The only problem with ickle Doctor and Master and the laundry is that the Doctor would probably leave his socks in highly creative places. The Master is probably the tidy sort, though, and he'd tell the Doctor off and try to get him to retrieve own socks from behind the desk and on top of the dresser ( ... )

Mmm, now I'm thinking happy thoughts about how the Doctor's socks ended up behind the desk. And I agree with all of your sock theories--I do think the TARDIS likes Fitz but also wouldn't baby him too much, because Fitz isn't as helpless with practical details as the Doctor is.

I think my favorite of your socks-pairings (if you'll pardon the phrase) is Wes & Gunn. That's love, that is.

I keep thinking Fitz has attacks of cleanliness--probably something involving his mum, or Sam or Anji yelling at him because his socks have started encroaching on the corridors--so occasionally he takes care of all the laundry, all at once, and feels noble and self-sacrificing afterward. But the rest of the time, yes, they're everywhere, and the TARDIS is not happy about it.

I'm glad you liked the Wes and Gunn--I think Wes's father and his years in boarding school probably gave him huge amounts of anxiety about being a Good Boy, and that anxiety can be partly relieved by things like tidying.

Fitz probably had to do a lot of the housework as a teenager during his mother's bad spells (during those times when he was at home with her rather than in care) so I think he probably really hates it but also feels guilty if he doesn't do it. So, yeah, occasional orgies of laundry would make sense.

...now I want to write that fic. Fitz Kreiner and his relationship with the past, expressed through laundry.

I don't have nearly the issues that Wes does, but I do know that tidying can be a way for me to feel like *I'm* taking control of my life.

Yeah, I'm sure Fitz had to take on a lot of chores, and the reminder of them would probably trigger stuff for him. But, OTOH, guilt. Fitz is very good at juggling contradictory emotions at once.

LA is an incredibly weird place - a definite industry town but since the industry is TV/movies the place has a bizarro vibe to it (which I can't stand.)

Heath Ledger dies 13 months ago.

And even with their efforts to mute the clapping, it was obvious that Paul Newman got (and deserved) the biggest applause during the tributes. The man was truly someone everyone should look up to.
